COVID-19: Chapter 8 - Ongoing source of viral information, and a little fun

I ordered some N-95s from bonafidemasks.com last month and they arrived in 4 days. I think they sell K-N95s also.

Just checked and they do carry the Powecom N-95s. Even have them in black now.

Kid ones look like still preorder. Thank for checking though.

My company has a warehouse full of N95 masks but isn’t pushing them

“Relax, only 1% (1,500) of them will actually die.” —some right-wing dickhole lint relative from your FB feed you can’t block because it will make Thanksgiving awkward

That information is a bummer. I golf a lot and get paired with random people. I always keep my distance but I am around them for long periods of time. Have been getting more nervous about it lately.

Again, I feel like if the only way to be 100% safe is for all of us to wear N95 anytime we’re outside of our houses for the rest of our lives, regardless of vaxx status, then we might as well just catch it and get it over with.

Maybe the sweet spot is to catch it at about 5 months after vaxx, hopefully get reasonably sick.

Vaccinated people are no longer going to let the unvaccinated keep them from trying to live their life.

They have the vaccine. They are for the most part immune from serious illness. The overwhelming majority of people getting sick are the unvaccinated. So let them get sick and die while they continue living their lives.

It’s not the perfect approach but I don’t blame people for thinking that way. Why should we be enslaved by the irresponsible and delusional people of the human race?

100% is a high standard. Forever is a high standard.

Stay on top of developments. Get shots when available. Adjust mask wearing and social distancing as appropriate.

Crossing the street isn’t 100%. Just pick what street and what time and you’ll be fine 99.9999% of the time.

It isn’t for the rest of our lives and if vaccine protection starts to wane why wouldn’t natural infection? We probably do all catch COVID though, hopefully while in a protected state.

Andy Slavitt I thought laid out the near term likelihood reasonably well. COVID isn’t going to disappear, we will probably need to check the COVID forecast like the weather forecast. If COVID=low and vaccination protection=high, can do a lot of things. If in a COVID wave or vaccination wearing off, chill out for a bit. Hopefully once we can vaccinate kids the waves won’t be as bad, although SAGE and others do think it is just a matter of time before the real vaccine escape variant for gen 1.0 vax (although hopefully mRNA can be tweaked quickly).

Longer term, probably better gen 2.0 vaccines and possibly therapeutics, but we are going to have to be patient.

One thing that would serve everyone well, but of course lol not happening, is if we just killed leisure travel and stopped seeding waves while we let the scientists do their work and got the world vaccinated. That would probably be the easiest way to the most normalcy while we figure out what the hell to do next.

Thread is getting incredibly depressing, surely some right wing assholes have died from this thing today?

We dont have any guarantee that getting a case will prevent future cases right now.

There is still good news. The vaccines are safe and are effective, we just have to figure out how to boost and dose them appropriately. Still light years better off than we were a year ago long-term, just the long-term going to be longer than any of us want.

From my wife’s mother, a nurse in TN.

Horrible weekend. Many covid cases. Icu full and vents at 100%

Are we really going to have full football stadiums all fall? Seems terrible! SEC games will be mega super spreader events.

Like I fundamentally understood why nobody in Tennessee cared when New York got annihilated with covid, but it’s weird that when it rolls through them, they still don’t care.

Full capacity everywhere, not sure we need to pick on the SEC. Blue states aren’t really mitigating either

There have been a few weeks of CFL games with 30k+ vaccinated up north, but I think you have to be vaccinated to attend basically everywhere so 0 uptick in cases. At least Toronto and Winnipeg confirming only those vaccinated can attend NHL/NBA games.

Very little outcry as well.
