It is an outstanding result – so much so, the Reykjavík government felt they had this pandemic beaten.
In June, they rolled back social distancing, mask and travel restrictions.
But those restrictions have been reimposed as a Covid-19 Delta outbreak has sent case numbers soaring.
And even with a significantly reduced rate of severe illness, the explosive outbreak is seriously straining the tiny nation’s health system.
Not great. They’re starting a vax program for 12-15 year olds now. Maybe that plus some more natural immunity will keep a lid on it. It’s hard to imagine most jurisdictions getting higher than 90% vaccinated. Not good news where I live, where the health system is under-resourced at the moment and under strain even with zero covid.
Approximately 50% of the population has been fully vaccinated with 4% more waiting for their second shot. Over 90% of the shots given have been either Pfizer or Moderna.
15.7% of the Czech population has tested positive for covid-19.
Foots with some if the twitter epidemiologists who speculate even with full vaccination R0 doesn’t get or stay below one with delta without masks, business restrictions, hybrid school, etc
Saw the first big line of cars out onto the street at the drive through testing place by my house since the holiday peak today. But I just realized that they administer vaccines there, too, so I’m choosing to be optimistic.
Based on scientific data currently available on COVID-19 vaccines, as well as on 70 years of vaccinology knowledge in the pediatric population, the Academy believes that clinical trials in these
children can be safely conducted with a 2-month safety follow-up for participants. Assuming that the 2-month safety data does not raise any new safety concerns and that immunogenicity data are supportive of use, we believe that this is sufficient for authorization in this and any other age group. Waiting on a 6-month follow-up will significantly hinder the ability to reduce the spread of the hyper infectious COVID-19 Delta variant among this age group, since it would add 4 additional months before an authorization decision can be considered. Based on the evidence from the over 340 million doses of COVID-19 doses administered to adults and adolescents aged 12-17, as well as among adults 18 and older, there is no biological plausibility for serious adverse immunological or inflammatory events to occur more than two months after COVID-19 vaccine administration.
Perfect example of how the disinformation bubble works - take some part of a study out of context, and use it to support a premise that’s the exact opposite of the study author’s conclusion.
Looks like Dr. Eli deleted his tweet. I’m glad this site saves the screen grab.
