Yeah if you have state mandated ratios that’s super rare. As for the relationship between doctors and nurses… It is what it is. It’s obviously not every doctor but on average it’s not great. Huge exceptions out there obviously… I’m sure it’s not news that there’s significant room for improvement. Just keep setting a good example for the baby doctors whenever you can.
Do you think it’s plausible that there will be 100k pediatric COVID cases just in the state of Louisiana on August 24? I have some trouble buying that one–it seems more likely that the observed doubling time represents some kind of measurement error here (why are we using a 4-day observation window all of a sudden?). But even if 16x case growth in two weeks is something we are forecasting here, are we not also projecting 500k adult cases in Louisiana? My argument here is not that everything is fine–I’ve been worrying about Delta for a long time. Rather, what I’m saying is that focusing on pediatric cases doesn’t make a lot of sense. If we have half a million cases in Louisiana by the end of the month, we’re probably going to end up with 1000 dead adults and, perhaps, one dead kid.
(Another point to consider: if cases really are doubling every 4 days among kids now, how bad could changing their care situation to literally anything else possibly be?)
More like 10000 or more probably, no? Many cases would be old people who did not vaccinate.

So if we look at the UK delta wave, it seemed to be very roughly 6 weeks from when things first started pitching up until the peak. Extrapolated to the US, looks like things started ramping up at the beginning of July, so perhaps we can hope for the peak hitting maybe the end of next week? We can dream, right?

Man, I don’t know. If someone’s GI told them not to get a vaccine becuase “it’s been shown to cause (insert made up bullshit here),” and then that person got covid and died… That’s a hell of a malpractice lawsuit in my opinion. I hope the PI bar gets all over shit like this.
Not only is that infuriating, but the narrative is probably completely fabricated. The “I had my sleeve rolled up, pharmacist was about to inject me, but i stopped them at the last second upon reading the fine print and they couldn’t even tell me it was safe” is bullshit. She never went to get it.

The biggest problem with professional poker players vs your average person here is that they have a ton of downtime/are online more than average so feel the need to share their opinions about a shit ton of subjects when most are knowledgeable about one or two.

Like even if I wanted to decide today that I wanted to become one, I’d have to quit my job and spend a bunch of money to become a full-time student for multiple years.

I don’t know, but I suspect that it’s a ‘whole bunch of people quit because of stress’ situation more than not producing enough, if that makes sense.
