One common human failing (of many) is that people instinctively feel that rewards for sacrifice should be proportional to how much it feels like you’re giving up. A classic example is a person who wants to lose weight giving up dessert and expecting to lose weight because that feels like a big sacrifice, but not checking that they are still eating more calories than they’re burning. I think that’s part of the behavioral trap that Ford is in - he’s trying to stupidly negotiate with the virus by saying “we’ll give up this much retail business” and expecting the virus to reward that sacrifice, instead of methodically and ruthlessly limiting interactions to stop the spread. The virus doesn’t care that we’ve given up our preferences lifestyle but Ford acts like it should.
Vaccinebros are just showboating at this point:
It’s been a long day at work. I could use a virus cocktail right about now. Make it a double.

Geez. Pretty insane.
Makes Czech Republic at 14% seems not so bad by comparison.
What’s the deal with Chile?
Late to the party, finally got round 1 of the Pfizer vaxx.
Yes, you’ve lost your mind. And the only “pro bono” assistance you’d get is from right wing anti-school groups. Doesn’t matter, however, as the case isn’t ripe for adjudication until the district acts.
Has the Fauci and Marshawn Lynch vaccine discussion been posted?
“Not getting the vaccine is like throwing a slant on 2nd and goal from the 1”
Slightly -EV at worst?
True, but for the target audience the line hits bullseye.
Got the second shot on Friday just before noon. Was already feeling the effects a couple hours later. It’s kicking my ass now. Chills, somewhat achy, and it feels like I took like a quintuple dose of an antihistamine. I’m exhausted. My son is struggling with a project that’s due in 30 minutes, though, so I stayed up in case he needed help.
Here’s a pretty succinct summary of how policy failure in Canada has made things much worse, independent of the vaccine problem.
I feel like Mike’s “no half measures” speech from Breaking Bad would be a good daily reminder for these people.
India’s drive to vaccinate its 1.3 billion people has also hit obstacles, with just 117 million shots administered so far and stocks running low, according to some local authorities.
B.1.617 is the double variant believed to be responsible for the surge in infections.
This is quite good.
