COVID-19: Chapter 7 - Brags, Beats, and Variants

This thread needs more views. Not surprising at all, but a good read nonetheless. He’s been terminated.

ETA I didn’t see the additional posts on this when I wrote this. W/e

brutal Sunday shift yesterday… hard to keep up the peak nonsense I’ve been pushing.

I think the return to normal should not entirely be based on the number of people who actually get vaccinated. I think that if vaccine is freely and easily available to the population for 6 months or so, then I think a return to normal is probably OK.

Sure some vaccinated folks will get it and die and there are some who for medical reasons can’t get the vaccine will die. I’ll feel bad for those people. I think they will have a better shot at beating it because our therapeutics will have advanced by then (maybe everyone can get Regeneron).

Most who die will be people who voluntarily chose not to get the vaccine. My sympathy for those people will be very minimal.

You sympathy will be minimal. My schadenfreude will be maximal.

Is one of the reasons that vaccination distribution is slow due to the fact that they have to be selective in who gets it right now? Meaning, once they get through the first couple of tiers of priority shouldn’t it naturally proceed at a much faster rate? Or is it something else that’s the problem? (Since states are controlling the distribution inside each state, I would think not all states would be so terrible at it.)

Mine will be up there on a case by case basis.

There will probably be some kid or some demented person who doesn’t get vaccinated because their guardian is an anti-vaxxer. Or some kid will lose his mom because mom was an anti-vaxxer (Although, in that case, the sympathy is for the kid, I’d necessarily feel bad the mom died. It’s not as bad as losing a non-anti-vaxxer mom, but still bad.) But if we eliminate all of those kinds of cases, I’m right there with you.

Given how fucking terrible testing was for the first few months, I’d kind of bet that vaccine rollout will also be fucking terrible and we’ll get better at it over time.

Not done with it but it is a pretty good article.

Good thing Trump threw out the pandemic playbook.

the playbook specifies that, “while States hold significant power and responsibility related to public-health response outside of a declared Public Health Emergency, the American public will look to the U.S. Government for action.”

The feds are scrapping the entire current state run vaccine rollout within 24 hours of Trump not being president anymore. Having private companies do this distribution instead of CDC/FEMA/National Guard is fucking dumb. CVS is a private corporation which means it has absolutely no excess capacity for this and is already fucking everything up.

The good news is that everything will go way faster when the Feds go back to running the entire COVID response like they should have been all along. This is a capital F Federal government problem and has been from the beginning. That’s going back to the normal way things work on day 1.

No that’s definitely not it.

I’m guessing, but I think one problem is that the current protocol demands that you have to wait at the center for 15 min after the injection to make sure you don’t have a reaction. These waiting areas have to be socially distanced and someone needs to be able to actually see you in case something acute happens and you go down so fast you can’t alert anyone yourself.

So, I think the bottleneck right now is physical space plus the need to have someone “monitor” even in a very superficial fashion. My guess is that the incidence of reactions will be so low that CDC may change this requirement and that will speed things up.

Don’t tap the glass, Molly.

So possibly large temporary military buildings and/or taking over stadiums or convention centers and stuff like that? Do we really think these kinds of things will happen under Biden?

Is this a crime? Feels like it should be. He is trying to get specific people killed. These people are part of the government so inciting insurrection should be in play.

Can @j8i3h289dn3x7 or another lawyer chime in here? Any chance he will get charged and/or sentenced for these posts? The US takes freedom of speech very seriously but this might be a bridge too far?

Hopefully. Those things would be helpful even without that 15 min requirement. There are a lot of fucking people to vaccinate. You still need a person to give a shot, a person to deal with the paperwork, and a place to give it.

The fact we are a year into this thing and there has never been really any Federal government response is completely insane. Remember that one time they tried it for a few days?

Then Trump realized that was boring and started the Die for the Dow Jones/LIBERATE MICHIGAN campaign and there was never ever a plan after that. There is a raging deadly pandemic and our federal government spent more time sowing doubt in the population about how serious it was rather than try and do anything about it. It’s completely fucking insane and 100% of the reason we are where we are. The president and his stooges literally traveled around the country for months hosting Covid-denier superspreader events. The entire admin outside of Fly Pence got pozzed and Trump was hospitalized from it. We now have a vaccine but have zero federal plan for that either. We also now have more than half the population who has been propagandized into thinking it is overblown and a significant portion who will refuse vaccination.

When you take a step back and think about how insane all that is and how fucked we are it is really depressing.

This is not the bottleneck right now. It’s that demand >>> supply.

The 15 minute shit is annoying though and unnecessary.

this really kinda amounts to an armed faction holding public officials hostage to do their bidding. these guys are yearning for donjr to become their rwnj version of franco or fidel.

/derail didn’t realize this is the covid thread

US Military is probably one of the premier organizations in the world at logistics in any crazy situation. They should be doing this.

All the conditions and whatever is nonsense. I’d do it by age. Age 80+ until reasonable amount done, then 75/70/65/60 or however you want to do it.

Not a lawyer, but I don’t think “every Governor, mayor, attorney general, liberal judge” etc. is specific enough. I think the standard is whether it incites “imminent lawless action”.

We need/needed a massive federal push for manufacturing/distribution of the vaccine. Like you said the military could do a good job at this. Shut the dumb ass sports teams down and use the arenas for massive vaccination centers.
