COVID-19: Chapter 7 - Brags, Beats, and Variants

It’s not a ban on travel, it’s a safety regulation for how interstate travel may be done. It’s a core federal authority.

Can health insurers adjust rates for unvaccinated?

and, if it turns out that vaccines don’t stop transmission, or don’t slow it at a very high rate, we’re probably going to remain isolated from civilized countries when it comes to international travel for a long time.

I just printed out my passport renewal and will be dropping it in the mailbox later today. :|

That won’t actually solve anything as you’ll then have a shitload of people getting covid without health insurance as free riders which just increases the burdens on everyone else.

I’m really in a dark place today with all of the stupidity behind this whole issue. Part of it is the soul crushing stories I hear from my wife and seeing the incredible toll this is taking. Part of it is hurtling towards 500-600k+ Americans dead. Part of it is the soul crushing stupidity from the entire right in this country. Part of it is the apathy I see from non-crazy people who are just moving on with life and pretending it isn’t happening.

These Covid deniers aren’t just dumb they are proud of it. They think it makes them a PATRIOT to literally kill other Americans because they won’t wear a mask or socially distance. Turn on AM radio any day of the week and the hosts are all instructing the flock to stand in defiance of the tyrannical governors and mayors. The few minutes I heard today they played one of the typical anti-masker clips where they throw a fit about masks and are ejected from a store. The insane part was the show was making her out to be a hero and saying they were trying to get her on the show. That’s after 9 months of this shit and seeing 350k dead Americans. Their message is that the real problem is the government by trying to keep people safe with very minimal rules.

I mean hell they still go on and on and on like the country is SHUT DOWN. Several states never shut down and there have been zero statewide shutdowns in 6 months now. Opening shit up didn’t fix it, go figure. And yet they have zero introspection on this. Zero.

I’m so fucking sick and tired of this. Sick of the isolation, sick of learning a huge number of people in my life are evil, selfish or morons, sick of my wife getting terrorized so dipshits can hit Applebee’s, sick of all the right wing grifters making money off promoting behavior that makes this worse and on and on and on. It might get better but this is never ending in USA #191 because this country is one of the sickest places on earth. JT is right about that.

You said that you thought the CDC “could clearly ban interstate travel”, so what you suggested is a ban on travel. They can probably regulate certain forms of interstate travel, such as requiring a test to hop on a plane, but I don’t think they can shut down interstates to prevent people from crossing state borders.

Lawrence Wright is truly talented. Playwright, documentarian, author, journalist the guy does it all.

What’s weird is that the URL is dated January 4th, 2021 but it was released today.

Wow, that’s a pretty intense and fast termination. Especially given that he’s probably union-represented and these things usually take time. What did he post?

Trump winning in 2016 has done so much damage. If he had lost and been buried then most would have stayed in their hidey-holes.

But no, they are out in full force and there will be a long time before the genie goes back in the bottle.

We’ve had the red scare and the anti immigrant stuff of the teens and 20s. They receded but never disappeared. Along with slavery and Jim Crow there is a virus in the hearts of some Americans that waxes and wanes.

Prince William County PD is probably worried that his Parler account wasn’t racist enough.

Well put. Most of my despair is if we can’t get the moron and political apathy classes to care about something like Covid there isn’t any issue they will likely care about. Progress on climate change, health care, income inequality or the like literally aren’t possible here. We can’t even get grown ass adults to put a piece of fabric over their disease holes without throwing a fit like a toddler. These people are so far away from realizing the real problems in this country it is hopeless to think they could ever learn.

People don’t care and just want to be left alone to shine up their guns, watch Netflix and eat terrible chain food. Something like Covid has really exposed the huge systemic problems in this country in ways few other things could and yet very very few people have learned any lessons from that. On our side we have all our hoped pinned on the vaccine and the other 70% of the country is just tired of dealing with it or worse.

It turns out, much to my surprise, that most folks don’t really actually value their lives a whole lot.

I guess that doesn’t bother me as much as the fact they don’t value the lives of their family, friends or strangers in their communities either. That part bothers me a lot. People literally would prefer hundreds of thousands dead over not being able to go and rent servants for the night at Chili’s.

And clearly the one place we know that is a super spreader is the White House. Of the super gonorrhea and maybe Covid too.
