And thus the Christmas Peace came to an end

ā€œItā€™s not that much worse than malariaā€ is a truly incredible take.

I have no idea how many people would die from malaria if it was a worldwide non seasonal disease and everyone decided that using mosquito nets and insect spray was a freedom issue but I agree covid without mitigation is far worse. But if the world had shut down for 2 months and implemented test and trace then we would all be like New Zealand.

Taiwan as well. They went 300 days without a case.

Food shortages? lol what? If nuclear war happened I missed something.

BTW, just in case someone was actually interested in the history of malaria, that used to be a big problem in the United States too. Yellow fever too. It was a problem that was fixed, people cared about it plenty and addressed it basically ending it in the 1940s. Iā€™m just utterly baffled at why someone dutch dude is bringing up malaria of all things.

Itā€™s just another version of the ā€œYet you participate in societyā€ meme. Itā€™s lazy thinking to say that just because there are other problems in the world that we shouldnā€™t be focused on limiting the damage COVID does to our population.

If you knew the history of the jman comment about comparing covid with other diseases then you would also understand the malaria, food shortages and nuclear war comments. Not going to rehash it all again.

You just brought it up though

This guy just dropping bombs with no idea of the collective trauma the forum has suffered in the past week.

Look at the post I replied to and you see jman brought it up and I decided to take the bait. But no idea why some caffeine dude decided to join the party.

This world needs a make over

They donā€™t live within range of a cell tower?

Have not read paper behind article. Donā€™t know how they controlled for OFS (new strain up in kids in roughly the same timeframe as when schools were open so maybe kids just got more covid regardless?)

Either way, if there is a sub-population with less spread then there is a powerful selective pressure.

:crossed_fingers: that it only increase spread and not severity (though just by incidence there will be more disease unless mitigation efforts offset spread)

I have no idea who you are.

Schools have been open since March 2020

Severity not affected but GG hospital capacity = severity in real life terms affected

Please do not source the Daily Mail (worse than Utoobz)- I posted the BBC equivalent a whole 5 days ago with info that the new variant does not select or progress through age groups - itā€™s just rips through all groups regardless

absolutely not. in fact, in my anecdotal observation from frequent flyer groups, people are even MORE determined to go places NOW, precisely because the vaccine is so close. They want to get a bunch of leisure travel in now before everyone else decides itā€™s ā€œsafeā€ (and before they have to start traveling for work again)

frequent flyer message boards and facebook groups are sometimes mindblowing, just the most disgustingly selfish, entitled shitbags Iā€™ve met

So the fancy gym around the corner has been open in defiance of the Governor. Lot was pretty full yesterday.

Apparently their Facebook page says ā€œthere are no proven studies that gyms cause spreadā€

Jfc. There is so much denial regarding spread. Letā€™s see itā€™s not

Schools
Restaurants
Bars
Businesses
Gyms
Church
Weddings
Funerals
Family gatherings

But yet 100,000 people have died with millions of positives just since the election.

Itā€™s the immaculate virus.

Should put a chain lock on the door and a fake health department sign in the window.
