Hamilton was on Disney+ over the summer, not sure of itās still available to stream but 100% worth a watch if you can find it.
The vaccination center I went to had a giant āI am not throwing away my shotā banner. Lin Manuel Miranda was ahead of his time.
It blows my mind that employers arenāt requiring the vaccine for their employees.
THATāS SOCIALISM!
Does it really blow your mind?
Iām not surprised at all.
Think about all the micromanaging and controlling employers do. Now this is the one thing they want to grant autonomy for? Fuck off.
Like their response to any attempt at improved working conditions is āat will employment, thereās the doorā but somehow weāre supposed to care about the rights of fucking idiots to endanger their coworkers?
Itās cartoon villainy all the way down.
Itās not even clear to me if employers can require the shot legally. Seems like yes, but maybe not?
If they can tell people not to smoke (they can), they sure as shit can tell them to get vaccinated. The least an employer can do is keep their people safe, if nothing else for their own self-interest.
More generally, there arenāt two sides to this issue. People refusing to get vaccinated endangers others. You donāt get to be an ignorant fuckwit on this, period. Just not interested in hearing how its not the governmentās role or personal freedom or whatever, this is exactly the kind of thing you need the government to enforce. In the absence of that, employers would be a nice start but thats not happening because reasons, apparently.
Thought employers in USA#1 (in most states, anyways) can pretty much demand anything of their employees or just fire them. Is this something different?
Just imagine if anti-vaxxers were mostly minorities and not white people with guns.
Look I think that employers probably can require vaccinations (Iām no expert on the ADA and how the EUA affects that), but this logic is just bad.
Iām not going to re-hash the medical ethics part of this debate. Donāt see much point in it.
I would like to point out that the vaccine is not even available to the general public yet, and Iāve seen some employers require the vaccine (through a report on a legal case). Thereās no reason to send off your lawnmowers yet.
There have been a smattering of requirements, but Iād be opposed to any in most industries right now. Still too early in the process, thatās more like a 2022/2023 decision. Open businesses should still be practicing full social distancing precautions right now.
Air and sea travel more likely, although even there it is too early in a lot of ways. We dont know how often boosters will be needed, how variants play out, etc. For international travel seems a lot more complicated than have you got any vaccine yes/no if the goal is travel without required quarantines.
I donāt know, when 30-40% donāt want to take it and theyāre a powerful political force I can see employers not wanting to mess with that. If employers start mandating it, the right is going to lose their shit and thus the right wing politicians will follow suit and put pressure on employers.
Certain employers can tell them to fuck off, and even hold them by the balls with donations, but small/middle companies canāt. Would be an interesting battle.
I hope it goes to the supreme court because you know they will take the side of big business and that will have the trumpers hating them even more.
I was told today that my employer is not requiring vaccines. You guys are delusional if you thought that was even on the table.
My employer at least fought for us to get that sweet 1A priority, so Iām pretty happy about that, even if itās not relevant for me personally yet. I have a coworker in WA who said that WA honored the CA letter, so she got her first shot. In OR, as best I can tell, I canāt get an appointment even if I swear on a stack of Bibles that Iām literally a doctor treating covid patients, nor can I get anyone to tell me if they honor the letter or not.

āWithout stringent control measures, including limited closure of educational institutions and a greatly accelerated vaccine roll-out, COVID-19 hospitalisations and deaths across England in 2021 will exceed those in 2020.ā
Pfizer dose 2 on board. Didnāt get emotional like the first one, but Iām still feeling pretty damn fortunate and am ready to GO LICK SOME MFING DOORKNOBS as soon as my microchip comes online!
