I want my kids vaccinated before me or my wife. They come into contact with many more people than we do for more than trivial amounts of time thanks to their daycare, they’re a mortal lock to give it to use if they get it, and a lot of their worst outcomes involve at least one of us dying.
Bolded seems like reason to get yourselves vaccinated first. I’d be interested in whatever assumptions you made in your mental EV calculation.
His COVID takes earlier in the pandemic made my blood boil. I had to stop looking. Despise him.

I have no problem with Pfizer and moderna making money after one of the most impressive technological achievements of all time.

Seems like some of the others players should offer to produce the Moderna or Pfizer vaccines if possible. They can continue with their trials but seems like job 1 is getting doses out. (Maybe certification isn’t realistic or something else like the proteinase is limiting?)
With the base technology being so similar, I hope the core inventors did a good job of Intellectual property protection and licensing. (I really hope it was public domain but being realistic). Could be some interesting lawsuits.
The technology of plug and play is fascinating. They basically had the vaccine in hand in a Very short number of months, at least half of the timeline was trials.
I don’t think the general population understands that this is more than a decade of development paying off big time.
And I’ll say I again, even more criminal that we couldn’t keep it in our pants for a year to save half a million lives in LOLAmericaUSA#1.

So I owe everyone on here an apology for those posts I made. They were inconsiderate to all the people in here who are taking taking more precautions or who might not be in a situation where they can otherwise get out and be social (not to mention all the people who have gotten infected or know loved ones who got infected despite taking all reasonable precautions). It was also incredibly inconsiderate and disrespectful to all the folks in here who are working on the front lines fighting to keep dumb people like me alive despite our idiocy. By all accounts y’all have been fighting through an unmitigated nightmare and people acting like me have only made it worse for you. I’m really sorry, andI hope I didn’t cause too much harm or engender too much ill will. I really like this little community we have built and I appreciate all the valuable feedback and info that all the knowledgable folks have shared, which has allowed me to be ahead of the curve on understanding COVID from the onset. Also, I really appreciate the feedback I got from @JohnnyTruant and others letting me know I was being an ass.
Anyway, cheers everyone. I hope y’all have a safe and comforting holiday season.

Amazing the open for sports crowd up in arms about any mention of keyontae Johnson’s covid status. All angry at ESPN for mentioning it and shouting down anyone on twitter that mentions it. All hail College sports!
Mind these are saying that covid causeD myocarditis, they are just saying it’s possible and that hopefully they can determine if it is or it isn’t.
I have a son kicking alcohol and going through all this alone. We do the best we can.
You live in a nice climate, invest in your own plexiglass shield and find a friend to meetup with at a picnic table. Whatever it takes for sanity.
On the downside you live in a place where lots don’t take it seriously.
And I hope all our folks that have decided to travel get through safely.

So we had a college athlete almost die yesterday and now in critical condition likely from covid? It seems real bad to me we are going to end up with what 50% of our population pozzed by the end of this with these things happening to people down the road. Also I was assured these strapping athletes would have no side effects from the covid. What happened.

On a related note, man, south Florida is just ramping up the crazy from what I can see. “Season” down here begins shortly after Thanksgiving and its when all the seasonal “residents” from the northeast migrate down for the winter. It’s the time of year when many of the high-end and wanna-be high-end bars and restaurants make their budgets for the year. You would not know there was a pandemic going on rn. I think it’s made worse by the fact that most of these people have been living under much more strict quarantine conditions, so they are just excited to go out and feel normal, and our government and local businesses are more than happy to let them. Like, while I was staying at the hotel there were at least two wedding celebrations going on, minimal mask compliance. I wouldn’t be surprised if south Florida makes NYC in March look like utopia.

I would wait before assuming anything. We’ve seen other young athletes collapse and die occasionally over the years from various things, mostly related to undetected heart conditions.

FWIW the German government is currently predicting that around half the population will be vaccinated by December 2021. Somehow I find it hard to believe that public health infrastructure in places like Mississipi or Alabama is going to be so much better at distributing the vaccine.

The overwhelmingly likely way that I get pozzed is from them getting it at daycare. Protecting them first protects the whole household. If I get the shot first, they’re still vulnerable at daycare.
The college sports thing might be the most criminal element of all of this. These are kids (yea I know they are technically adults but many are fresh out of high school) being lied to, told that they will make umpteen millions of dollars when they hit the bigs, despite the fact that 99% of them will never get paid for playing the game, and being forced to perform in dangerous circumstances for our entertainment and for these colleges to make huge amounts of money. Its defacto slavery. The rich owners make every cent off the backs of these kids with narry a promise of anything for them.
