COVID-19: Chapter 6 - ThanksGRAVING

Well, you don’t tell them then. Maybe save it for when they’re off the vent. I seriously think that would be a good thing.

If you had lead with this reason instead of basically “If I do this, I’d get paid less”, this conversation may have gone differently.

I got summoned for in person jury duty in Los Angeles County. In the same state where my $25 ticket that I have to get a cop to sign off on has been postponed from March through December 31 and likely later so I don’t have to interact with anyone in person. I haven’t been to a fucking grocery store in almost a year, y’all can go fuck yourselves.

Joke of a country.

It’s not exempt. But the risks are essentially eliminated by washing your hands after handling the packaging and before eating.

I don’t know the final answer on contact but it seems that it’s a significant minority of spread at best. Whether that 10%, 1% … idk.

Just anecdotal observations from limited public restroom visits that hand washing is way up. Lots of purel use.

The Spartans don’t do much beyond frequent hand washing. I do wipe down the grocery cart handle and pull up my sleeve to cover my hand to open doors.

No formal grocery quarantine anymore. No extra prep steps on take out.

But I honestly can’t tell you if I’m a fool or not. I think it’s Intuition but it also could be complacency.

We’ve been tipping $20 per instacart order, typically $100-$150 including tip, store is very close to our house.

Not all viruses and bacteria are necessarily going to be wiped out from your hands by simple soap and water as coronaviruses are, but simple soap and water nukes coronaviruses from orbit. Their casings are a pretty simple grease with the spike proteins sticking out. Soap is incredibly effective.

My wife just got the same. Our plan was to have her call every day in the hope she didn’t have to report, which is what happened. If they had asked her to report she was going to call the courthouse and tell them she just developed a cough. Sporadic online reports seem to indicate that odds are low of actually getting called in - instead of calling a shitload of people in and then drawing juries from that pool, I think they’re just calling people in who are getting assigned to a case.

This is probably the wisest strategy, but fuck them, I’m not calling. This isn’t ok.

Last time I got called for jury duty was like 3 or 4 years ago and I completely ignored it. So far no repercussions. Ymmv.
