The other attorney in my office and I just got done talking about the 'Rona. He has taken it extremely seriously and has followed the news on it. When I told him we were a lock to have at least some days with 4500-5000/deaths a day he was stunned. He is probably in the top 5% of knowledge and taking precautions. The general public really has absolutely zero idea what is coming.

My sis who is normally pretty reasonable has fallen hook line and sinker for the “covid is just a flu” bs.
She posted some argle bargle on instagram like “someone break down the math for me we are at 80% ICU capacity but only 25% are covid patients? What’s the big deal?”
I dont know how I came from a family of morons. I genuinely don’t.

If we get an actual Thanksgiving surge from here I honestly can’t even imagine what that will look like. It seems like everything we know about Covid is telling us it will happen but I can’t really comprehend what the actual ramifications of that would be.
I’ve obviously spent a ton of time listening to my wife talk about work. It seems like for her personally in some ways it can’t get any worse. She is already taking care of well past the max amount of patients she can normally safely take care of. There are already no beds and haven’t been for a long time. The main impact of a surge from here will not fall on the hospitals imo. They are already functionally overrun. It will fall on all of the people who won’t be able to get normal medical care for anything for months. You will see more people die from Covid and more people die from everything else. If we end up with a large surge from here we are still drawing very very live to excess deaths for the March 2020-February 2021 year in the 1 million range or worse. I guess we have to hope there is no holiday surge because there is no help coming.

You can’t really test positive until 5 days after exposure on average. The death numbers now are from people who got pozzed in early November when we had a 7dma around 90,000. With a 7dma of basically double that now you can pretty reliably double the deaths from today to see where we will be in a month. That is peaks of 5,000-6,000 a day and a 7dma around 3,500.

Just asked a friend who’s progressive, pro shutdown, pro mask, and follows the news somewhat closely. She says she expect about 3K deaths a day around Christmas. I told her we had 2,857 yesterday and she said “Yeah, but Christmas is only three weeks away.”
Yeah, I mean, obviously I hope so too, but our hope is futile on this one.

Well, final update on my 95 year old step-father-in-law. As of last night, rest in peace. He was a good dude with an interesting life…grew up with like 12 siblings in the depression on a little farm in Arkansas where he literally almost never saw any money, worked 38 years as a civil servant, and then had like a 35 year retirement on a good pension.
