COVID-19: Chapter 5 - BACK TO SCHOOL

Chain all the doors shut.

The Twilight Zone is one of the best TV series of all time. The 80s version is okay. I haven’t seen the current version because you have to pay to get it.

I checked for VA, the rules are <250 people, staff with masks, patrons with masks when they first walk in.

I think the implication (having never seen the episode) is that the victim is the previous pusher of the button rather than the possessor, so if you don’t push it, you are off the kill list. The button is then just an asshole test where failure results in death, but if you do push it, you actually only bear a small portion of the responsibility for the victim’s death because their own choices have inevitably doomed themselves.

I downloaded the original full run of the show based on Trolly’s praise in the TV thread and have been working my way through it while baked at night. It’s definitely worth watching.

They even did a movie on the premise. Though seems more apt for a Twilight Zone episode

The Box- the title makes me think of Seven and you known how’s head in a box which is good ending for any movie.

Was this direct to video? I don’t remember this at all.

It made $33 million worldwide ($15m Domestic and $18m International) on a $30 million budget. In other words, it was a bomb. Only 33 people would have died.

There are going to be some odd happenings in college football.

I need to be in that area as soon as I can be, so once again it will suck having to wait oh I don’t know another 6 months or when a vaccine’s ready with a time dependent project…

College football message boards are the shit hole of the earth right now. Imagine if every single school at once was like bucknuts during the Meyer scandal. It’s awful.

The good news is that with good precautions you can control most of your own risk regardless of the environment (and hopefully your risk doesn’t compromise you).

I have gotten some work in the past few weeks but nothing reliable. If I’m asked to travel I will likely take it.

Good luck.

The movie is ok. It takes a really weird sci-fi turn, but in the end connects everything and is fairly interesting.

Here’s the short story the movie and the Twilight Zone episode were based on:

The problem isn’t so much me, it’s that the people I’m needing to see are in their mid to late-70s and early to mid-80s. I need to deliver a research filled computer and teach one of these people how to use it. I don’t in any way want to put them at risk trying to rush to get this done. I was supposed to do this trip in early April, but COVID-19 got in the way. The levels of delay due to the incompetency of Trump have obviously been maddening. I know all of them are playing it as safely as they can, and I don’t want to be the wild card who destroys all of that.

On the wiki, I read that Matheson hated the ending of the TZ episode. It’s hard to say which one’s darker.

Let’s bring the kids in for a few weeks, send a lot of them back home after the predictable outbreak, and then maybe bring them back in a few weeks… Seems like a solid, well-thought out plan!

Spent more time than I care to admit today observing other Internet communities to get a pulse on dialogue outside of our bubble.

My finding is that the “only 6% of COVID deaths are actually from COVID!!!” is ALL over the place. I’m curious what a widespread poll would show but I’m guessing this is accepted by around 20-30% of news-watching Americans.
