Yahoo will still buy me out for $100M. Now give me my $10M and shut up.
Flu shots administered virtually by AI bots delivering VR headsets via auto-piloted drones built by Elon Musk.
Ok I demand $30M now. Let the bidding war begin.
I guess our boy DL has recovered from teh rona
And if you can’t catch DL Hughley Sept 4-6, you can hear his jokes performed by Carlos Mencia September 11-13!
Day 1 of the school in the Czech Republic and four schools in the South Bohemian region have already closed and quarantined the teaching staff.
Keep in mind that the Czech Republic has 12 other regions like those. No report on how many schools shut down there.
Also, Prague has another record number of covid cases in 24 hours. Today’s 142 cases tops the previous record by nearly 40 cases.
lol Carlos Mencia still exists
That’s is! Zoom unleashed the Coronavirus. How else would they know to be ready to handle the massive increase in demand?
Brb. Gotta email this to my 100 million close friends.
I still don’t like this framing.
~50,000 of the deaths had Respiratory Failure listed as a contributing factor, for example. The narrow trail metaphor is still understating the risk.

High Fidelity Audio mode - Windows, macOS
This option in Advanced Audio enhances “Original Audio” mode, allowing for disabling echo cancellation & post-processing, while raising audio codec quality to 48Khz, 96Kbps mono/192kbps stereo for professional audio transmission in music education and performance applications. Professional audio interface, microphone, and headphones required.
Hahaha, that’s basically pointless on the surface as the stars are just recording on their laptops/computers/phones at home. If you can’t just automatically set up 48kHz as capture (pro film/video standard) without an interface then it’s useless. The only ‘control’ in quality in this environment is on the host side, so I’ll be very curious as to how this integrates.
I’m going to test this now and ask a client to update their usual set up if you can do this with just a standard computer/phone mic (still will be awful sound but at least it’s not compromised awful sound). The way they do it right now is they record the master Zoom call, and have the host recording backup audio of themselves. The host then does pickups of questions as clean up and it goes into editing to splice it all together to look like it’s live. The stars do nothing but turn on their camera.
What invariably happens, especially on 4 person calls is two or more people talking over each other which activates the Zoom gate leading to missed words. There’s a way to create split tracks of the Zoom session from what I’ve read, but I have no idea whether there is a setting the person who’s on the other end has to activate (that will never happen). You’d think it could be done at the meeting host side but I’m not certain of that yet.
The best experience I’ve had with this so far was on an audio commentary I edited/mixed. It was four separate people in four separate locations (5 if you include the engineer in another different location). The Zoom meeting was used to show each person the film and so they could see each other and show things on the screen to each other if they wanted. The engineer went over to each person’s house and dropped off a preset Zoom (different manufacturer audio recording device) recorder and a not great microphone they could use. This was at the top end of what will happen, because we’ve already had several stars say no way they’re letting people in their house to even drop off this sort of thing (this has led to some people not getting used and others going with poor quality options).
For that commentary, it was tricky to get the people synched to the movie because the engineer forgot to do two key things I asked him to do that would make that easy. Basically by using a drifting Zoom video meeting recording and some bleed through at the very beginning of the movie, I was able to get it relatively closely synched (easier to synch the commentators than the commentators to the movie). If one of the commentators hadn’t flagged midway through the commentary what a technical marvel it was, absolutely no one would have known it had occurred under extreme conditions during the pandemic (my skill removed anything that could have identified it as sub-optimal).
Just finished this check, and nope not sending that up to the client. I see no evidence of any videos they receive being above 32000 Hz. I can’t pull the supposed high quality file into Pro Tools to analyze what sample rate it’s at. In Quicktime, it doesn’t give a sample rate, but my assumption is it’s whatever the highest quality allowed is (again a stupid thing that you can’t set this or just have it record as an industry standard .wav file). Maybe they’ll get something near to resembling something people who aren’t great at this stuff can use, but it looks like more heavy noise and echo cancellation with quality below a 92kbps mp3 coming for the foreseeable future…
I know y’all are sick of me posting about the tiny country I live in but the CR keeps breaking its own covid records. 503 cases today tops the record by 1, which was set less than two weeks ago.
The Covax decision, which has not been previously reported, is effectively a doubling down by the administration on its bet that the United States will win the vaccine race. It eliminates the chance to secure doses from a pool of promising vaccine candidates — a potentially risky strategy.
“America is taking a huge gamble by taking a go-it-alone strategy,” said Lawrence Gostin, a professor of global health law at Georgetown University.
Kendall Hoyt, an assistant professor at Dartmouth’s Geisel School of Medicine, said it was akin to opting out of an insurance policy.
I’m so tired of this asshole being in charge of things.
This is disgusting.
Here is a baseline for Sept 1. ND and SD are shooting up in numbers and % positive. Most states 14 day running cases is down. I’d love to see how SDI changes as OFS starts up in different states and see if/when there is an inflection back up.
They’re real, it’s the Sturgis effect.
I’m not sick of it. All ground-level updates from different countries and regions are good imo.
Sturgis effect:
I found out a FB friend went there – she was very defensive about it, saying they got tested, were negative, were careful, yadda. Thanks, assholes!
So infuriating, and I think it’s spreading wide into something like 12 states where I see big effects appearing to emanate from it. OFS definitely has bearing in some of these areas (Iowa/Indiana), but I think a good amount of it begins with Sturgis, which happened a few days before OFS and was obviously a massive superspreader event.
Nebraska as well I think.
Anyone else get super annoyed at the following setup? I’ll use a neighborhood Mexican restaurant as an example. After covid started they went to an all take-out menu (great!) and set up a new online ordering system that actually works (great!) The problem is I go on their website, place my order, pay online, then walk down to pick it up and there is one line of usually about 4-5 people inside the restaurant, all of them browsing the menu and waiting in line to order. Literally all I’m there to do is get handed my bag of food, I’ve even already tipped. There is one person working the register, no place specifically for picking up orders, so what do you do? Just cut ahead saying “take out order for me”? Kind of be passive aggressive and start asking the people in front of you if they’ve already ordered, implying that you have? I’ve seen this at several places. I’m glad you’ve adjusted to rona times, but I don’t like how it’s placed on me, the prepaid customer, to have to basically be a bit of a jerk. I kind of did all that at home to have as little interaction with people as possible.
