COVID-19: Chapter 5 - BACK TO SCHOOL

State-level White House Coronavirus Task Force reports (in response to Congressional pressure):

Actual reports here:
https://coronavirus.house.gov/news/press-releases/select-subcommittee-releases-eight-weeks-coronavirus-task-force-reports-kept

Each week’s report is a ~450 page report, with detailed county-level information for each state. Potentially of interest - the reports reference mobility data from Descartes Labs that is apparently publicly available.

I just looked at the first two pages. Pence deserves nothing but shame and scorn the rest of his life.

The IMHE got a lot wrong - but they basically predicted this cycle of shutdown and reopen. Red state, blue state, Sweden, etc. - they all do it with different methods and rhetoric - but ultimately fairly similar results.

Except Manaus and places like that slum in India - which no one can figure out. I still have a feeling that in hot humid climate the virus doesn’t spread as well and isn’t as deadly if you do get it. Poor people with no AC in a hot climate may be in the best position to avoid the worst of covid.

Poor people with no AC in a hot climate are probably going to be the worst at compiling data about the effects of the virus.

How bout a jail cell? Can we get one of those for him, or is there not enough criminal negligence?

Is Epstein’s cell still open?

They keep changing their models, which means if you compare their originals to now you would probably be like ‘wtf’. They’re a completely untrustworthy source, but by continuing to put out low end models and updating them each week when they’re wildly wrong most people just forget and say, ‘hey, not bad’ (not saying you’re doing this).

Also, under your humidity metric, wouldn’t that mean India should be doing well? When I checked last week they were exploding at a much faster rate than the U.S. (they’re about 2 months behind us in start of widespread).

Still - I posted an article about Manaus. It definitely died down after the initial slam - and no one knows why.

Did anyone else used to sign up for WaPo through Amazon but now it’s like that never existed? I swear I went through Amazon Prime and just paid the $4/month or whatever. But just in the last two days it seems to have expired.

The weird thing is Amazon acts like I never had a subscription to WaPo - and so does WaPo.

Here’s the link to the Descartes data: GitHub - descarteslabs/DL-COVID-19: Mobility changes in response to COVID-19, provided by Descartes Labs. It’s mobility data, and they describe their methodology here: https://arxiv.org/pdf/2003.14228.pdf. It looks less comprehensive than the SDI measure.

Well my aunt made a funny post on FB today. So she’s probably not laid up with covid. I’ve heard of a 1-day pause but never 2-day pause. Which means my mom and stepdad probably didn’t get the mother of all viral loads in their 9-hour car ride yesterday.

Of course now I have a slight sore throat, which really only bothers me when I think about it, and am imagining myself asymptomatically blasting my immuno-compromised sister. The fun never stops.

I am going back to nothing but the grocery store when I get home. I wish I lived in a sane country where I could just run and get tested and get the results back in 45 minutes.

It’s to keep the gap between the mask and your face open to improve breathability, right?

Welcome to the club. It’s been obvious they capitulated to Trump and were doing his bidding since they changed guidance for businesses with regard to disinfecting. They are part of the apparatus pushing for complete OFB/OFS now.

Not directed at you Dan, because it wasn’t you, but myself and JT if I recall correctly were insulted as being conspiratorial and anti-science or whatever by a couple posters for recognizing that this was going on a few weeks (months?) back. So to those who mocked us for it, we fucking told you so and it was obvious then to people thinking logically. Adjust your mindset going forward or this will keep happening to you, because this is the government and CDC we’ve got now.

I’ll leave it at that.

So yeah it was JT as I recalled. Those of you who ripped us know who you are.

Even nunn can see this institution failing us.

When I had sleep apnea and didn’t know it yet, and was thus waking up 80-140 times per hour without realizing it and getting literally 0 REM sleep, I nodded off for a second or two and woke up in the next lane twice. Thankfully nobody was on the road and I stayed away from guardrails and concrete barriers and trees.

So I guess I batted .998 and lived, but now I don’t push it in those spots unless I’m within 20-30 minutes of my destination, and I force my mind to engage on something.

The feeling of waking up in the wrong lane is awful. Really really awful. Like I even stopped to take naps and it still happened, and it wasn’t like I was driving 24 hours or anything, it was on a 2 hour drive… So I wasn’t being a total moron, but I was in a very dangerous spot and ran good.

Now I’m back to being able to do 12-14 hour drives without major issues. But I know my limits. A 20 minute power nap is essential if I’m approaching them and I won’t push it anymore.

I lol’d but you’re good people. Also make sure your fellow Canadians know there are good Americans who will quarantine like crazy to go be Canadian if Trump wins and we’re good people too. Sure some of us like the Flyers, but we can’t be perfect, eh?

I’ll even learn all the words to the anthem.

Thank you, working hard!

But seriously I haven’t touched another human being in like 4.5-5 months except for a quick elbow bump when my buddy and I unleashed matching straight 305 yard drives on the same hole. I crave human contact and these motherfuckers making selfish and terrible decisions that extend this can rot in hell.

Give out a room in your new house to a sex worker who agrees to not leave in exchange for food and lodging.

I was 16 working my first job - grad night at the KC amusement park, driving home at 3am dog tired. I drifted across 3 lanes and woke up in the rough on the right side of the highway. Somehow I weaved between any number of obstacles like an overpass bridge, a stalled truck and highway sign that would have killed me (and possibly the guy standing outside his truck, who saw the whole thing). Naturally I wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. Those were for non-Camaro-driving pussies.

I thought I was going to hit a big chain link fence but miraculously came to a stop a few feet from it. Behind the fence was about a 70 degree slope down to the road below the overpass. Turns out the only reason I stopped so fast was I drug a concrete slab completely off of the storm drain it was covering.

Everybody Wants to Rule the World was playing. I still can’t stand that song.

I guess I’ve been playing with house money since I was 16. I’ve never come close to falling asleep at the wheel since.
