A lot of people are asking if the person was infectious in this thread. No real answers yet.

There appears to be no single app to rule them all. Best I can tell it’s a hodgepodge mixture of Google Docs, Zoom (live + recorded lectures), Khan Academy, with SQL server running some back end stuff. Everything is segmented based on grade level, then further segmented based on how they are sub-divided into virtual “classes” to keep things manageable for the teachers I guess, and presumably make server load more manageable. It just seems like they are short on hamsters at the moment.

I don’t choose to live there, but no.

Haha, his response to my questions last night:

So first things first I would have to read the studies myself, which I haven’t before I made any medical decision. Convalescent plasma has been used in medicine for almost a century and is safe when properly screened for donor and recipient. There is no question in any medical sense about that. As far as it’s effectiveness it varies for each disease process and like everything with Covid we are still learning so hopeful yes it’s good and gives us a better treatment option.

Bottom line. I trust what a well conducted study says not what ANYONE tells me to do. There is also experience in medicine and you know what you’ve seen work for patients you’ve treated before. Covid is not my specialty but applying the disease model to a new disease is still similar.

As far as Supporting Trump. Give me a better alternative. Do I love the guy, absolutely not. Is he my ideal candidate, fuck no. But nothing I see on the other side or what they want to move to aligns with anything I believe in. After 4 years Biden/Harris is the best the dems could come up??? And I’m sorry, the AOC type vision for America is just not where I am gonna ever be. You can chide me or shake your head at me and that’s fine. In the system we have these are the choices. You make yours and I make mine. I guess I could vote Jorgenson…

Same as it always was. Don’t like Trump but definitely voting for him.

Most asymptomatic spread comes from the throat from my understanding. If it comes from the lungs that’s sputum/symptoms.

A lot of people are asking and it’s pretty clear the study didn’t address whether the patient was infections. Swab tests basically don’t tell you that, you have to test viral load.

Yeah, these aren’t just problems that you can fix with the wave of a hand. Facebook has 30000 servers. Amazon has 450000 servers. Google has 900000 servers.

One of my kids is in currently in her Zoom class, the other is not. We have a county-wide virtual learning site that is working fine. My son’s teacher (homeroom and first period) hasn’t activated the link on her page to get into the video session, so it seems like it’s a problem on her end, not ours. We’ll see what happens next period with a different teacher.

BYU is in Provo.

According to this source,

“ Since reinfection can occur, herd immunity by natural infection is unlikely to eliminate #SARSCoV2. The only safe and effective way to achieve herd immunity is through vaccination. (4/n)”

So you may only get it once (if immune system is working), but you are contagious so herd immunity isn’t the savior.

BYU has a football team.

Yeah that’s what I know it from. I got the impression it was somehow an even more Mormon city than SLU so their culture would be very closed and they would be prone to prayer and assuming Covid is an “outsider” problem.

My kid’s kindergarten has been 15 minutes per day of her teacher trying to figure out how Zoom works, reading a book with some random kid pinned so no one can see the pages, and then a quick “See you tomorrow!”

JFC. I’m glad we were committed to home school anyway.

This has links to the entire study preprint.

you should really dive into this for several hours trying to interpret it. it’s very important

Seems like watching Sesame Street or whatever is probably better than Zoom meetings for kindergarteners.

Mormons don’t really have a “closed” culture from what I’ve seen.

To some degree true. Relatively. Assuming you mean SLC, I do choose to live here. Mormons are a minority in SLC. The mayor is a Democrat. I’d even describe it as somewhat progressive. BLM and Biden signs are common.

Sister of a friend lives in Provo. As of a few months ago sister was not taking precautions bc herd immunity. Sister is not Mormon. Just crazy, according to friend.
