Right now it feels like the return leg after you got a 0:0 tie in the away game. Everyone applauded your efforts and told you you played a good game. But a 0:0 is treacherous and I get the feeling the opponent is closer to the 1:0 which would make everything a lot more difficult to get out of this shit as the winner.

What I dont get: The USA are known for the most ridiculous lawsuits and compensations. Isnt anyone of them afraid that they get sued if children get infected and die or cant you sue the states?

They can’t get sued personally and they only care about themselves.

That’s what’s holding the bailout in the HERO’S act, Mitch is looking for employer liability insurance.

Take some time for mental health. If it’s any comfort, your cognitive issues could easily just be stress related if you’re feeling that stressed. So, I’m not really sure what offline, stress lowering activities are available amidst a pandemic, but at least avoiding obvious stressors is a good start.

I’d recommend at least trying a bit of mindfulness meditation, it’s helpful for the overactive brain. It’s healthy to tune out sometimes.

It’s my way of remembering people. My memory is shit due to my meds and so I need a way to associate a name with a face.

Eventually, I remove people from the list if I’m unlikely to see them again.

Hang in there man. FWIW I’d be surprised if your cognitive symptoms are due to COVID given your level of precaution (though obviously don’t let me dissuade you from getting tested if you want to). It’s not uncommon for our brains to used to switching gears and being interrupted every five seconds - both as a result of intrusive anxiety and from frequent consumption of new information in five-second chunks (e.g., forum posts) rather than long-form. Combined with some potential confirmation bias as anxiety causes you to take additional notice of challenges, it’s easy to draw terrifying conclusions.

My go-to strategy when I notice similar issues is as follows: cut out notification apps and sources of negatively-biased information, minimize multitasking, practice mindfulness, get exercise and productive sleep, and engage in activities (e.g., single-tabling poker, reading a book, mountain biking) that retrain me for uninterrupted attention. Sounds like you’re basically doing the same thing. Hope you feel better soon.

This is interestingly to me. I use to feel zero social anxiety and now I have at often.

I think it’s because I’m more aware than ever on how people perceive me.

What you will notice happening if you limit this activity to one limited instance with a defined endpoint is that your mind still yearns for that level of engagement throughout the day. Except now it will seek out new tools to hammer that nail. Just don’t use your dick and you should be gtg.

Now one specific suggestion that works great for me is to only access Unstuck with a specific phone app so I can use ScreenTime to limit how long I can access the app per day. Set it to an hour and then binge Unstuck as you please, but you’ll find yourself being far more mindful about what you read, post, and respond to, because you only have an hour. Use it up in the morning and see ya tomorrow.

I have Facebook, but almost never log on, maybe once a quarter, and don’t look at the feed or anything when I’m on it. It’s solely there to get in touch with old friends/distant family members if they change numbers or something. My girlfriend was an everyday facebooker for a long time and just recently noticed that she ended up upsetting herself every time she scrolled through. So she’s trying to ween her way off, but it’s a long road ahead. The idea behind Facebook seems like a good thing, but it’s somehow morphed into something that’s a huge negative for everyone that uses it regularly. It probably says a lot about how our brains work, that people will constantly return to something they know is hurting them, but here we are.

Take a break - there is no need to endlessly soak up outrage 24x7 when there is nothing you can personally do to change things. No amounts of graphs we draw or opinions we espouse can cause or prevent a single case of COVID-19 - only our own actions can control that.

You understand the situation and risk, there is not much that can change in the next one, two, or 8 weeks that will radically change your trajectory. If you get “entertainment” value out of staying plugged in, that’s great. If you aren’t and it is negatively impacting your life, pull the plug.

Find things you enjoy and do that, and step away from the various outrage machines that tweak your brain juices. Take the reasonable COVID-19 precautions that you almost certainly are, and don’t look back.

Nothing else to say that everyone else didn’t but I don’t think its covid either. Try to find a way to chill out, things will be ok.
