COVID-19: Chapter 5 - BACK TO SCHOOL

No, it’s needs related.

There are a lot of people around where I live that are trying to organize school “pods.” Basically rotate a handful of kids to each other’s houses every day so they have some socializing. My wife and I are NOT about that life at all.

A more controversial idea going around is similar, except parents would hire teachers for their little groups. Naturally, this would widen the gap between the haves and have-nots even further (though maybe the “haves” will have COVID).

Saw a FB friend post about going to a grocery store today and having a good experience. He said he had been shopping for groceries at Wal-Mart and it was terrible every time, so he was happy to spend a bit extra to have a pleasant experience.

The one person who has responded so far said he got kicked out of Wal-Mart today and hates that place. If you are wondering what kind of person gets kicked out of Wal-Mart, you would be correct in thinking the first post on his page is in support of Stella Immanuel MD.

There have always been stupid people, but when did people decide it was cool to be stupid. These types are proud to be the dumbest of the dumb.

My son is in a Japanese language immersion, heading into 6th grade. Nobody at home speaks Japanese. We are definitely considering have a Japanese tutor come to our house two or three times a week to work with him and some fellow students outdoors. Honestly it seems pretty low-risk and I’m not going to feel bad about having the means to do it.

That’s a little different. That’s a very specific thing that I would guess you are already spending some decent money on. Like my wife and I are looking into the possibility of a private gymnastics coach for my daughter since she hasn’t gone to practice since March and we don’t want to send her back to a COVID-filled gym (I suspect the price will be too high, but it doesn’t hurt to check). The pods/private teachers I’m talking about are for public school students.

Maybe you rich people could let one kid in the group on scholarship.

I was about to say that I can’t believe that Trump actually defended demon vagina lady…

but that would have been a lie.

We’re doing this now with 2 other kids in my daughter’s class. Both of the other families are equally as locked down as us and are communicative if they do anything that might break their lockdown. We plan on continuing when school starts.

It’s been working well for all involved.

I’m going to guess this is because Mumbai slums aren’t chock full of people in their 80s.

Safe to reopen schools though.

Here are case trend maps for 7/22-7/28 and 7/15-7/21. I’m not confident this trend will hold based on comparing 7/22-7/25 vs. 7/15-7/18 SDI where there are significant drops in most places, but I guess it’s best to take any good news we can for now.

This is what I did, I get your overall SDI trend. Notice I did it as this week/last week (with your two week offset), which I think gets us back to a roughly 1 week offset with a prediction for the second week. I hope that makes sense. Essentially week 1 SDI x week 2 case level =prediction for weekly increase/decrease for week3/week2.

Note that the biggest decrease (0.59) the cases drop bigly for one week then rebound for no apparent so that point is suspect or represents some reclassification?

Any good sign ideas for a counter-protest against parents protesting in favor of re-opening schools?

Has this been posted here yet?

The study shows a huge % of Covid recovered patients have heart damage.

What is the long term implication of “myocardial injury”? I dont know enough about cardiovascular health and aging to understand the significance.

The previous studies I saw only looked at patients that presented with heart problems. These numbers are pretty scary considering the subjects seem to be randomly selected from survivors.

Yes, just want to emphasize this point - this is not “We looked at individuals who were hospitalized for COVID.” This is “We looked at individuals who tested positive for COVID at a testing site, most of whom recovered at home”.

Like @mosdef, I don’t know the implication of these cardiovascular measures, but this is bad news from my perspective.
