Being an edgelord is kind of BruceZ’s thing.
Still catching up on this thread this afternoon but 80,000 is definitely possible. Another over 1k death day appears to be a lock.
NBZ seems ok with whatever as long as it ensures Republicans lose. Most of the rest of us are just resigned to the fact that we are living through a completely preventable tragedy. Deserve isn’t the correct word I suppose, but the people our society elected chose a path that guarantees hundreds of thousands of preventable deaths.
You seem angry. Maybe you should go to Disneyworld!
Yea I’m in Ohio. I’m not seeing it in any particular group just many people referencing some woman testing positive 15 times!
I’m assuming there’s a video making the rounds in the deplorable circles.
I can’t speak for anyone else but being mostly stuck in my house, not being able to see or do normal things with lots of my family and friends, voluntarily having my office closed since March 11th with no end in sight, hemmroghing financially and zero certianty when and if this will actually end would be a pretty terrible thing for me to root for. Not to mention fearing for the safety of my family and loved ones. I don’t think anyone here is actually doing this and this seems like a terrible post to generally make about the vast majority of us. (Well maybe BruceZ).
I’m fascinated by the way this thing has worked but in no way do I want any of this.
ETA- Oh ya I left out the best part, my wife working in ICU crammed to the rafters with Covid patients. I love that part and want it to get as bad as humanely possible!
The breathless reporting of numbers and new records (some people making wagers at some point even?) reads a lot like people cheering for this thing.
The majority of the American population doesn’t deserve this and the people that might deserve it most are hurt least by this
The cheering for numbers is a joke I assume? When I post some record with USA! USA! USA! after it you realize that is pure frustrated sarcasm right?
This is the covid thread. Why would we not discuss the numbers? If the limited data we have isn’t appropriate to talk about in your opinion what is?
I’ll be actually celebrating when we get this thing to a manageable level and running around naked in my neighborhood chugging champagne when it’s actually over.
Eh, not my fault that people are results oriented donkey morons. What I truly wish for was that people would have realized from day one that Trump is a malignant fascist wanna be incompetent clown who shouldn’t be dog catcher, let alone POTUS. So that I didn’t have up every fucking morning worrying about the outrage of the day and watching our country slowly but clearly and steadily descending into fascism.
But I waited 3 years and the voters needed to topple Trump insisted on being personally fucked by Trump before doing anything about him. Given this depressing reality, I’m not not looking at the bright side of this pandemic.
COVID-19 is just another battleground within a larger war. Some people think that the goal is to get to some status quo ante defined as pre-Trump. Maybe pre-Bush. This ignores the much longer struggle through Goldwater, Nixon, and Reagan.
We aren’t here because Trump is atypically incompetent. We are here because Trump is typically Republican and establishment Democrats are enablers through their faithfulness to norms (and some stupid beliefs of their own).
I just don’t see any way out that doesn’t involve total victory for one side or the other. There will be no “come to Jesus” moment where deplorables stop being deplorable. Maybe some might change their mind, but you’re going to have to coerce the rest through government power. What conditions are necessary to build support for the use of that power? If the virus can bring about those conditions then I will root for that to happen.
Satisfaction with getting the math correct to make a prediction has absolutely nothing to do cheering for people to die* (which is essentially the argument).
As someone that dealt with microbial contamination on a daily basis, I hoped like hell that the contaminant would just disappear. However hope doesn’t do shit and the math and underlying biology determined the outcome. Not luck.
*ok maybe some very specific rooting
It’s this. We are bored and trying to predict what happens next with limited data in different ways. That isn’t very dissimilar from a slow motion poker hand in the abstract.
I don’t think anyone here would choose to stay in this world over pre-Covid world but I may be wrong about that.
Lol for some reason this feels like the UP version of “Sir, this is a Wendy’s” to me.
We are like half a year into the worst crisis in my lifetime, and everywhere you look people are ignoring clear and obvious data in order to play stupid games and win stupid prizes.
I wish nobody dead, but after 6 months of this shit we are still seeing millions of idiots falling over themselves to get sick and die, taking their innocent families and friends with them to the grave.
Aided and abetted by “leaders” on the state and national level who willfully have traded death for economic activity, we sit here day after day watching the inevitable train wreck unfold in slow motion. A train wreck that prevents the sensible among us from having any hope of a return to some semblance of normalcy while the rubes dance away in blissful ignorance.
So yah, we look at the numbers with a heaping helping of “I told you so”, because we did, in fact, told them so.
Yea I thought about making a poll, quickly thought better of it, but now am not sure.
I’m a glass is half full kind of guy. Holding out hope that a disastrous handling of covid and ensuing economic collapse prevents a future climate catastrophe.
And in fairness, I do find myself sometimes wrestling with an almost perverse darkness that wants to see people suffer for what they are doing to themselves, their friends and families, and by extension myself and my family. I think I’ve posted about that shameful feeling before.
I do feel some amount of, I don’t know, vindication when I see the numbers grow. Probably because I like being right too much. You are correct though, that isn’t healthy.
But that’s a far cry from rooting for suffering or this thing to continue or get worse.
I check out the dashboard data for my locality every day or two, and I also take heart from seeing those numbers remain good.
Light and dark. Some days there is more darkness though, I’ll grant you that.
Who was the poster (Awval?) who said they didn’t care until 500k were dead when talking about Puerto Rico? Are they 30% of the way to caring about the response to Covid?
