COVID-19: Chapter 5 - BACK TO SCHOOL

This is a great discussion but I’m confused why it’s in this thread.

Maryland looks to be on a bad COVID trajectory at the moment. A month ago we were averaging ~350 cases/day. The past week or two we had been creeping up with some 400+ and 500+ days. Past two days have both been 700+.

It’s kind of frustrating watching the whole country laugh at the south for opening up their shit and having a huge spike in cases when most of the rest of the country has ALSO opened up their shit. We just did it a few weeks/months later than the south. I can go sit in a bar or restaurant down the street right now if I want to. We’ll do better because we have more work at home types, more mask compliance, etcetera, but we’re going to face the same challenges.

One house per person seems fine to me, but if you own a few acres in the middle of nowhere there’s really no reason you shouldn’t be able to build a few houses on it. The restriction should be on how much land is ownable and it should vary by the population density in the area with lots of unowned space. imo.

India has had some plague outbreaks. Google is telling me 1994.

Any chance we can take the Airbnb talk out of the COVID-19 thread? It’s certainly a worthy discussion to have but is pretty unrelated to the pandemic.

Yeah, should be excised. This just happens to whatever thread people hang out in most of the time.

Yes, I think there are probably many ways the idea can be finessed but the basic premise of encouraging and protecting diversity of ownership is solid.

The other issue is the impact to the neighbors. My issue with the house behind me that is now a short-term rental is the noise. Other neighbors I have spoken to have complained about the loss of parking and the noise.

I like to put it in terms of land because there’s really nothing ownable about it. No one had it originally and essentially it contains no work. We’re just all born here and it’s something like the air that needs to be shared. Crocodile Dundee put it well, “it’s like fleas arguing over who owns the dog.”

20% positive rate is so insane. Ours in Alberta yesterday was 0.015%.

Yes.

The question then is akin to the idea of scrapping 2A and making privately owned firearms illegal without a licence - what do you do about existing owners?

WHO COULD HAVE POSSIBLY SEEN IT COMING

Are they testing everyone in Alberta? Random testing?

I assume the letters to the editor are going to get increasingly batshit crazy.

Our anti-vaxx Covid denier governor Kevin Stitt has Covid-19. He was there at the Trump rally with no mask.

Combination random and targeted. Anyone can get a test for free if they want and they test outbreaks.

We had 6,000 tests yesterday and 80 positives.

Holy shit Reddick has 16 cases. I lived there for 2 years. The entire town is about 500 people. It is TINY. A random apartment complex has more people.

I’ve been tested three times. First two throat swap last one nasal swab.

Throat swab>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>nasal swab :grinning:

It is not pleasant! lol

That’s what I thought! LOL. And a lot of places I never thought would have a mask ordinance are saying MASK UP MFKERS. Freedom fighters will be posting a bunch of videos.
