COVID-19: Chapter 4 - OPEN FOR BUSINESS

Any test that is dependent on the total fraction of positives is not much of a test.

Damn dude 0 people? Not even 1? Like if my buddy asked me to take a coronavirus test before the next time we sit in his backyard and drink a beer I would probably get one. Sounds like you guys are still going? Still get tested and bring masks even if nobody else does. My mom is planning on flying to south carolina in september for a mini family reunion because one of my uncles has ALS, but I think she will end up cancelling as this gets worse. I wouldn’t be too upset if she ends up going as long as she understands all the risks involved.

Literally none and were told masks aren’t allowed. We aren’t going to the event. We are just going to see the uncle solo outside of the time everyone else is going.

People opting not to wear masks is one thing, masks “not allowed” is another thing all together.

We truly live in two countries. I dunno wtf to do anymore. This thing where I need to somehow be tolerant of the other side because different opinions are the spice of life is leaving me on life tilt. How can I agree to disagree with someone who is just fucking wrong? And then basks in their ignorance? Arrgh.

I would lose it and spam the whole family. What idiots.

Send the article on the NJ family that lost several older folks.

well that’s just because you live in a bubble and don’t like to hear anything different than what you believe. see i was taught to question everything and not believe what you read just because the news told you. i can actually agree to disagree because i like to hear both sides of the argument before making a decision. you just believe what everyone tells you unlike me who carefully studies all issues before making an informed decision.

sorry i’m kidding. this is what every shitty facebook post about reopening has looked like on facebook. some fucking drooler prefacing his dumb opinion with how woke he is and how you have to hear his stupid opinion out. its driving me insane too.

More or less just had this talk with the wife. What happened to America to the point where “conservatives” don’t believe in science? Was it always this way? FFS. Is it uniquely American i.e. the effect of white skinned long flowing hair Jebus? I don’t understand this country at all.

Wichita,

Sorry man. I will repeat my oft-given advice to cut off toxic family members. You won’t regret it.

From my facebook the other day

Hello everyone. There is no twist at the end of this post, I just want to say that over the years I’ve both sent and received a lot of friend requests. Some of you I am in regular contact with, with some of you it’s sporadic, and there’s some who I haven’t I haven’t spoken with in ages.
Either way, if you can see this post, at some point in life we knew each other. I only add people I know.
I make a promise to you, my facebook friends.
I will never delete you because I disagree with you. I will never delete you because of your political views, your religious views, your views on science, your views on morality, economics, whether aliens have visited earth or not et cetera et cetera…
If I stop listening to different opinions, I stop growing as a person. Even if I cannot accept a difference in opinion, even if I KNOW it is wrong, it still benefits me to learn from that opposition, and adjust my argument for or against it. And maybe, just maybe, I will realize that I am wrong. I’m only human.
I told you that there wasn’t a twist at the end. There isn’t.
I will never delete you because I disagree with you.

Even reasonable people right now have taken the position that letting propaganda slowly poison you is actually a good idea.

My wife’s aunt who is ringleading this whole thing just posted this to FB less than half an hour ago

Chessmate Libtards!

I don’t think it was always that way. It’s just that conservative causes undermined science to push their agenda and were not specific about “no, not epidemiology”. And because tribalism, was 100% swallowed.

I wish more people would adopt FB guy’s approach.

The anti-science thing has its roots in climate change denial and, more fundamentally, the pursuit of money above all else.

What anti science movements have there been in the late 20th Century? Other than smoking, which wasn’t super partisan.

All I can think is this is as good as it is going to get for at least the next 9 months. We have school starting in under 2 months most places, football about to start and of course Covid+Flu/Cold season now just a little more than 4 months away. I made a bet today that we will have 100k new cases at least once by Dec 31st. That seems like a lock unless testing or results are suppressed moving forward which is certainly possible.

The anti-vaxers say hello.

Once you start accepting science in one area, it’s a slippery slope. Before you know it your entire worldview falls apart with educated people telling you things you don’t want to hear. Better to just preemptively throw a tantrum and act like a toddler 24/7/365.
