COVID-19: Chapter 4 - OPEN FOR BUSINESS

Looks like our big Memorial Day Weekend plan is to get Wawa Hoagies, drive to an open state park and have a picnic/hike. Masks packed and ready if needed.

I’m fine staying in, but the wife is going stir crazy. To be fair she is chained to her computer/phone 6-8 hours per day while I’m puttering around the house and yard.

You’re getting Wawa so I’m jealous

I’ll be playing golf with the wife tomorrow and probably not doing much of anything else besides video games, tv and random yard work.
Having two of our close friends over tonight to hang out on our patio, first time we’ve done anything physical with friends in a couple months.

My wife is in the same boat as yours except she works 10ish hours a day, sitting on meetings for 80% of the time. I’ve been going into work during most of this (had two weeks off in April) so it hasn’t been that abnormal for me.

She does a lot of volunteer work as well (she runs the local historical society), but I can at least help with that.

As far as increasing and decreasing states, here are the 7 day moving averages for the last 4 weeks.

Significant decreases w clear trend

MA, NJ, NY, PA, RI, weak WA? CO?

Significant Increases w clear trend

AL, AZ, IA, ME, MN, TX, VA, weak NC? WI?

The rest are flat or noisy. Most of the decreasing states had the highest case counts.

Apparantly the Twin Peaks here in OKC had their normal Thursday night mega rager last night. Saw these posted on FB. Must have been a masks not allowed event.

What the hell is going on in Georgia? Last two weeks they’ve been at low 5-figure or high 4 figure numbers for daily new tests, with a positive rate <= 5%, not bad. Yesterday they report under 5k new tests, and a 15% positive rate? Uh.

I will just point out that Krispy Kreme Karen has a beautiful ring to it and a deliciously appropriate KKK abbreviation.

Brian Kemp right about now:

I am probably nitting it up, but my only point is that epidemiological modeling doesn’t need to be done by an epidemiologist just like economic modeling doesn’t need to be done by an economist. Modeling is modeling. It can be done poorly by arrogant economists like those at JPMorgan and by well-meaning health researchers at IHME.

Yes anyone can fit a line through some data. Which is why there have been so many wildly inaccurate Covid-19 models.

It’s OK guys, a bank wouldn’t have any incentive to skew the numbers or to only release the results if they supported an increase in economic activity.

Sounds like our life sans the golf. We hung out with one couple and their kid a few times but went back into isolating after Mother’s Day. My in laws are coming down this weekend and bringing our dog back (he was vacationing with them for quarantine but we miss him). My MIL is fairly high risk because she’s on immunosuppressants but we’ve all been taking extra precautions the last couple of weeks so :crossed_fingers:

If fucking only. No Republican politician has that level of introspection or shame.

Yeah they’ll just cry “We couldn’t let the economy die! [so we let people die needlessly instead]”

People like this have to be institutionalized for their own safety don’t they?

That’s a lot of people who make keys for a living.

I know people don’t like to call others “mentally ill” if they are just assholes, but when I see videos like this, I honestly think people like that lady are actually mentally ill. It’s legitimately sad to watch. It’s one thing to talk about conspiracy shit on a message board (lower stage mental illness, though), it’s another to actually go out and try to act on the weird beliefs.
