COVID-19: Chapter 10 - Mission Achomlished!

Hah for sure. My other partner was with her other partner and they are Mono when together. It really highlighted to me why I am not closer with this partner after travelling together.

As I’ve mentioned I have a burner Facebook account solely because of a game I play. As such I have about 1000 randos as ā€œfriendsā€. They post the most absolutely insane stuff. Anyway

The ones who have regretted not taking it aren’t around to tell you how much they regret it. But whatever, go suck a tail pipe and prove science wrong.

That suggests the pre vaccine distancing and masking either didn’t help or there wasn’t a large difference in uptake based on party.

I don’t think this is necessarily correct. Another viable explanation is that masking and distancing are collective activities that reduce the collective rates of transmission and if Republicans don’t do them then that is bad for both Republicans and Democrats. If you don’t mask and distance, then I might get COVID. But the vaccine is more individual - if you don’t get it and I do get it, my probability of getting COVID goes way down and yours stays high.

Considering the Dems is Ohio are clustered in major cities, that’s even more impressive.

The analysis was done at county level.

Anecdotally, a decent amount of friends / coworkers are coming down with COVID lately after hardly hearing about COVID earlier this year.

Yup, two people in my department after not hearing anything about it for a while. Both characterized their cases as nasty.

Same here. A few folks out sick in late July and early August.

We don’t have good data on cases anymore in Ontario. No one is testing.

I also know of a few cases. One person just got it for the first time and is getting slammed.

Canada’s wastewater surveillance dashboard is all we’ve got now (as far as I know) and it’s not showing any serious upward trends recently.

My guess is that there is nothing exceptional happening but that we will have a permanent steady state of occassiaonal COVID illnesses, with occasional spikes. I am not sure what is going on with vaccines right now, the efficacy must wear away over time. Maybe we all just need boosters and then we mostly don’t have to worry about it? My last boosters was a bivalent shot in October 2022.

Not exactly sure when i got my last booster but it was probably 15+ months ago. No vid for me since I got it from my wife in Dec 2021. I remember wanting to get the 2nd or 3rd booster but they kept it restricted to olds for so long that by the time it was available I’d kind of just said fuck it.

Yeah I’ve been talking about getting my bivalent forever, but haven’t bothered. After initial two shots + booster + lol olds over-50 booster + actually getting COVID 2x along the way (both relatively mild), I just can’t muster up the effort to go in and get it done.

My union (state employee) negotiated a $1000 bonus for anyone that took the bivalent booster.

Probably a worthless, meaningless anecdote but when I went grocery shopping yesterday I noticed more mask wearers than what I’ve been seeing lately. It was noticeable enough that the thought that people must know people getting sick crept into my mind.
