Can he not smell it after it was pointed out? People, especially kids, can be pretty oblivious.
That is true, and my wifeās theory. But man we are SKUNKED up in here. He said he could not smell it after we pointed it out, but in addition to being oblivious heās also full of crap a lot of the time, so that canāt be relied upon either.
It seems crazy to me that my testing options are home test of dubious reliability, PCR test that will take days to get back, or rapid PCR that will cost me $250+ if I can find a place to do it.
I think some experiments on his sense of smell are called for. You may need to have m&ms or video games or something to reward him when he gets a smell correct.
Fwiw I tested negative on at home tests for three days when I was definitely positive. Tested positive on day 4. Same story for a few coworkers.
Iāve heard this from a number of people. Found a $150 rapid PCR place. In the time since I first posted about this my temp has gone up 1.5 degrees. I may not have COVID but Iāve got something.
That can be normal variation in temperature. Itās not a fever until 100.4, although ear/oral/skin temps are notoriously unreliable. Iām guessing you donāt want to do a rectal or bladder temp to confirm.
Donāt worry about the number so much, it doesnāt really matter. How you feel subjectively is more important.

Made it 26 months, and never even had cause to get a real (non-home) COVID test until today, and Iām 1-for-1. I choose to believe I caught this visiting my sick friend in the hospital, as that sounds more noble than getting it from my kid.
BTW flu positivity rate is 12.5% in Northern California so hey it could be the flu!
edit: womp womp
Hope you feel better soon. Remember the days when UP was covid free for way longer than the general population? Ah the good old days. Now we all are getting it.
You people are making me really discouraged.
We got through the wifeās big fancy dinner thing without reports of any cases.
Now it just feels like a matter of time.
Now Iām curious.
- Yes, Iāve tested positive for COVID
- Yes, Iām sure Iāve contracted COVID but havenāt tested positive
- Not that Iām aware of

Those who had COVID and isolated: did you isolate yourself from your pet(s)? I understand I shouldnāt let my dog go back and forth between my room and the rest of my family, but is it really a bad idea for her to stay with me?
nah youāre fine with the dog
Within maybe 6-8 hr if first dose of Paxlovid I started to feel a bit better, like itās really managing my symptoms a lot. I am still getting new symptoms every day, itās like this virus is just playing a joke on my body. Day5 symptom today is shortness of breath. My fever is under control for now for first time since pozzing. Iām up for third dose of Paxlovid this evening
A friend that is a crazy ādog momā wouldnāt go near them. Donāt be a crazy dog mom, itāll be fine :)
I didnāt isolate from my dogs but when it comes to choosing between me and my wife they chose her every time so I didnāt spend much time with them.
Forgot to add, my pulse oximeter reading down to 93/94 today, was 95/96 range others. Iām guessing thatās linked with shortness of breath symptom. From what Iāve read 93/94 is pretty low but not low enough to like go to ER or anything. My wife doing better there sheās reading 96-98
When I evaluate a generic patient with Covid one of the first things I do is walk them for one minute while measuring the oxygen levels. Everyone 89 and under stays. 90-92 gets labs done, maybe a ct scan and mostly go home, but some stay. 93 and up go home without further testing.
Assuming that this patient doesnāt have copd or something where they live with lower o2 levels normally
Son has had a runny nose and cough for 3 days, had a close contact in his day care test positive yesterday, and somehow tested negative on a PCR Today.
Damn josh hang in there. I was already mostly in this headspace, but Iām again calling from the complete and total shutdown of not-masked-public-air entering my lungs until we figure out what is going on.
