The whole thing is just so so dumb. After 1-1.5 million deaths I don’t think that testing people returning from abroad is gonna be the magic bullet that keeps America healthy
I think they’re particularly useful for #1 Freedom USA travelers who need a negative test to get back into their own country (THAT’S SOCIALISM!). The proctored tests come in packs of two so you can take the second one with you and then you can use it to get back into the People’s Republic of America, if Radical Socialist Joe Biden approves.

Well there hasn’t been another attack like 911 since the US implemented 20+ years of sustained inconvenience at airport security. Explain that, smarty pants.
There’s also no communication. Like, it would be helpful if, when leaving America, someone was like “hey you’re going to need to test back in, here is a place to buy tests (or, gasp, give them to people for free with each departure) - save them for when you come back.”
It’s all so fucking stupid. Have to test in to a place that’s completely letting it rip with basically zero restrictions, the height of absurdity.
Were you flying a US-based airline or an ex-US airline? For my international trip earlier this year on a US airline, I remember multiple emails, app notifications, and website banners about being “travel ready!” and “requirements for the trip”, etc., etc. That’s where I found the direct links to buy the proctored tests.
Why do Americans make you take your shoes off? Nowhere else does that

this. there should have been a vaccine mandate for domestic air travel (along with a bunch of other vaccine mandates) plus testing exemption for US citizens with current vaccinations (plus boosters etc).
It’s just regrettable that the public policy around vaccines has NOT been “Your stupid personal choice to not get vaccinated will be an inconvenience to you”, instead we get a lot of “Your stupid personal choice to not get vaccinated will be an inconvenience to everyone else, would you like fries with that, Beloved Glorious Consumer”. It really doesn’t have to be this way.

I just keep going back to Democrats being in charge. They could implement such policy. They choose not to.
They’re kind of stuck because what COVID restrictions we have had are probably costing Dems more votes than lack of action from Congress and the White House on other stuff. And also SCOTUS won’t let them.

Don’t worry it only took 11 years for the IRS to get a mistake straightened out. Meantime they hounded me nonstop.
Was my fault though, I transposed a digit and then amended it to correct it and they didn’t seem to really care.

Air travel isn’t the only place masks are still mandatory, it’s all public transit. It seems obvious to me that transit is a unique transmission threat because of the time you’re in close quarters with many different groups of people that are difficult to contact trace. My inner lawbro also notes there is a commerce clause justification for the Administration to focus on that.
For vax requirements, they’re probably looking to slow down variants.
I never thought I would turn into the COVID hawk around here.

Generally I agree, but air travel has to be the easiest possible contact tracing situation. It’s not like taking the bus or subway, people don’t check my papers or take my photo on the bus.
Last week a flight attendant asked me to pull up my mask between bites. No problem I said. Thank you I said.
Meanwhile, mouth breathing Trumpers across the aisle had at least their noses exposed the whole trip and not a mention to them. (The adult kids mask was Trump 2020 and they were in grossed in Cucker Tarlson).
