We’re back to “where does Ron DeSantis go for his apology?”
A new study has graded states by how well they handled the coronavirus pandemic and its subsequent restrictions and lockdowns, showing a stark contrast between liberal and conservative states.
The Committee To Unleash Prosperity study compared state performance on metrics including the economy, education, and mortality from the virus, and examined how states and their respective governments handled the pandemic response.
The foxnews story doesn’t link to this “report”, and it can’t be found on the website for the LOL “Committee to Unleash Prosperity”! Weird!
I mean if he could go back and reconsider all of his decisions, I doubt he’d change any. He gave his people what they wanted and he’s been a political winner for that despite the disproportional deaths and damage to his state’s economy.
He’s going to be president someday, probably soon, and his pandemic response will be a huge part of why.
This is why I’d like to actually see this “report” because they are spinning it like DeSantis wins on all these metrics. It seems like their bottom line is “Blue state mitigation efforts were totally ineffective so they should have just let it rip like Red states did” but I’m curious to see how it’s even possible to reach this conclusion. Even for Steve Moore, “distinguished Heritage economist”.
They probably used polls or something. Either that or current case numbers in the wake of a wave. Hey sure, our cases and deaths were 10x yours a month ago but now yours are twice ours! Chessmate, lib!
Agreed. My immediate inclination is that it’s a stupid thing to do that makes approximately nobody happy. If I’m against it, 95% of people probably are.
I mean I’m wearing an N95 indoors anyway, I just don’t think the benefits of a mandate are worth the trade offs at this point.
Nobody is enforcing it strictly, so we’ll see tons of chin strapping and free-nosing. People will ignore it in large private gatherings. So it’ll make little to no difference, but we’ll have to see temper tantrums, hear insane drivel, etc.
I’m also not even sure we should try to flatten any curves absent a much more fatal variant. I’m vaxxed, boosted, and masking. I prefer a shorter and more severe peak in cases. The unvaxxed and non maskers don’t want to take any precautions.
They only people who benefit are immunocompromised and unvaccinated kids, and while I do feel for them, I don’t think it’s making much difference in their long term outlook.
There are instances I’ll probably always wear one now but wearing an N95 for 8-16 hours straight sucks big time, it’s never going to be normalized everywhere forever. I hope it’s safe enough that I don’t feel the need to wear one while I work soon. I’m not optimistic.
Our mask mandate is finally getting dropped on Good Friday. I wouldn’t mind if it was retained for stuff like grocery stores and public transport where I am not trying to engage in human interaction anyway, but I am definitely over wearing one when I go play poker or chess or go to the pub or walk into a gas station for 30 seconds.
I’ve been banging this drum since the beginning. I haven’t had a cold in 2 years. Whenever I get one, they knock me the fuck out. It has been fantastic. The closest to sick I’ve been has been my ~1 day reaction to vax doses.
I’m really going to miss mask-wearing after the pendulum fully swings the other way.
On the other hand, the last time the Czech Republic had fewer active COVID cases and hospitalizations than it does now was October of last year. And that’s with nearly all restrictions removed minus a few cases where masks need to be worn.
Slovakia, where I am now, is a bit more restrictive. Masks are still mandatory indoors. Security was walking around a supermarket I was at checking people for masks. As a matter of fact, I saw them kick out a couple of 20-somethings for not having masks with them. Saw that a grand total of zero times in the Czech Republic. Was all honor system there.
I assume that isn’t the case at every supermarket as the guards were from a private security firm rather than actual cops.
