COVID-19: Chapter 10 - Mission Achomlished!

I finally got the COVID. First symptom was very dry throat followed by headache, fever and fatigue.

How did you test? PCR or at home?

Home test. Got what I assume was a false negative yesterday and a positive today.

Charlatan

apparently xe is the new variant of concern, 10% more contagious than ba.2, recombinant of ba.1 and ba.2

fantastic

10%?! Cmon, I donā€™t get out of bed for anything less than 100% more transmissible.

true, but who has done a good job at hitting at variants of concern that go on to be a bigger deal

Holy cow 3 days with no poasts?!??

As a triple Pfizer quinquagenarian - Iā€™m looking to schedule my 2nd booster. Any reason I might want to mix it up and go with Moderna on this one?

The CDC doesnā€™t specify which kind of booster to give to patients, said Dr. Fryhofer. This is not an oversightā€”the bottom line is you can boost with any of the three COVID-19 vaccines. It doesnā€™t have to match the primary series shot, she clarified. This is called heterologous boosting, whereas boosting with the same type of vaccine is called homologous boosting. ā€œEither strategy is permitted,ā€ she said.

This seems to suggest it canā€™t hurt. But itā€™s also not clear that it will make any difference.

Covid is over, ldo.

I taught without a mask for the first time today. Felt pretty great.

My triple-vaxxed patient caught COVID a couple of weeks ago. She described it as similar to a mild cold that lasted a few days.

Iā€™d 100% get Moderna for the booster (and itā€™s what I did after 2 Pfizers). I think itā€™s a small freeroll, almost impossible to be worse, but very small chance it is better.

Ok done. If I have a stroke Iā€™m suing you.

My thinking is that itā€™s probably better for your immune system to get exposed to a variety of antigens, but honestly I donā€™t think it matters all that much. Iā€™ve been going mix-and-match myself.

Yes, Modernaā€™s shot likely lasts longer before waning and may provide marginally better efficacy. Thatā€™s before accounting for the possible advantage of mixing.

Does that take into account that Modernaā€™s booster is half a shot and Pfzierā€™s is a full shot?

No homo.

I believe it does but Iā€™m not 100% sure. Keep in mind that half a Moderna shot is 50 mcg of vaccine and a full Pfizer shot is 30 mcg of vaccine.

Itā€™s been difficult for me to not shed the mask at work the past week. Iā€™d say only about 10% of employees and customers are still wearing one, and I spend 30 mins in close proximity with hundreds of different people every day, so itā€™s certainly unwise to go maskless imo. Some day maybe itā€™ll be safe enough. Iā€™ve definitely started to feel like Iā€™m the weird one who might be wrong, but fuck it I believe in science. And the customers who are are Doctors dealing with covid patients are part of the 10%, so I trust them too.

ETA: didnā€™t mean this to sound like Iā€™m judging you at all. Teaching is totally different and if I was back in a classroom Iā€™d likely be more inclined to remove my mask when talking.

I played my first tourney in over two years last night (11th out of 125, not too bad). 100% of asian players still wearing masks. About 30% of others. 95% of dealers.
