COVID-19: Chapter 10 - Mission Achomlished!

Very interesting rea

Hint. Bezos is an asshole and Kushner is a moron and the vaccine companies while brilliant are selfish to society’s detriment.

Needs more church hate

Checking in from Hollywood, where there are multiple stories like this one where actors are giving up hundreds of thousands of dollars because they won’t get vaccinated.

The best part of this is “They made no effort to find a workable solution!” Says the person who refuses vaccines.

I’m wondering if it’s possible we won’t have another massive spike like this. Not that I think it will happen, just that it’s possible it doesn’t happen again.

It’s highly possible this is the most dramatic spike in terms of cases. It seems unlikely anything else will have an immune escape advantage against the Covid landscape of x months from now compared to what Omicron had against the Delta/vax landscape.

But as x gets larger, and especially if we manage to decisively reduce Omicron and Delta cases allowing immunity to wane over time, it could happen.

I just think about the death rate if there was no vaccine. If we assume 2/3 of the people are essentially immune from death, we could be looking at a 3 fold toll or on the order of 7,500 per day. 225,000 in one month.

(Assumes NPIs were about the same as the beginning of December 2021)

I’m fine to have this extracted to another thread although I think we’re probably approaching an impasse.

The issue is that in the case of the usefulness of CBT for terminal illness, for example, nobody is like “well since psychotherapy is useful, I guess terminal illness is psychological, therefore I just need to pack this patient off to the psychologist, job done” but this leap is routinely made with ME/CFS.

The problem here is that I’m telling you how people actually behave in reality and you’re replying with abstractions, like if I told you that there is systemic racism in the justice system in America and you asked me to tell you where in the criminal code this racism is written. Doctors have a massive subconscious bias to wanting to believe that ME/CFS is psychogenic because it absolves them of the uncomfortable feeling that a patient is suffering and they have little to offer them. The #1 predictor of GPs believing that ME/CFS is non-psychogenic is knowing someone socially who has the condition, since they are then less able to bullshit themselves about how it works.

Sharpe and Wessely are both infamous figures in the ME/CFS community, Sharpe was lead author on a study called the PACE trial showing the usefulness of CBT and graded exercise therapy. After years of refusal to share trial data, a court ordered Queen Mary University to release it, whereupon multiple re-analyses all showed vastly lower benefits than claimed, down to statistical insignificance in most cases, this from an unblinded trial. You can read an intro to this here:

Wessely is engaged in an ongoing grand ideological project in which he argues that all somatic syndromes and environmental health effects are actually psychogenic. In 2002, for example, he argued that:

who, for example, were the main casualties of Chernobyl? The 23 fireman killed during the clean up, and the thousands and thousands of foetuses aborted throughout Europe because of an erroneous fear of reproductive risk.

World Trade Centre Syndrome [is] the latest consequence of an ideology that tells us that our physical environment is responsible for most of our bodily discomforts and ills.

I have my doubts about his claims of being driven from the field by death threats but if he was, job well done.

It’s going to be a serious disease in first world countries for only the stupid and the immune compromised primarily. Everyone else is going to go back to normal. Well until all that circulation launches the doomsday variant (maybe). I’m sure we will hear about it here first.

Imagine being a Bro/Karen complaining you can’t breathe in a cloth mask after the Canadian woman’s Olympic hockey team just played a game wearing N95 masks.

That’s honestly super impressive to me. Doing cpr in a n95 was brutal

Looks like a pretty good Omicron indicator in kids. Let’s get the wee one vaccine approved…

So maybe variation specific vaccines won’t make a difference?

We talked about this a little earlier. A couple theories were posited. I think that, in people who’ve had covid vaccines already, their main response will be the same antibodies they’ve made before. Omicron might not be different enough to matter too much for that.

Man that is a potentially scary proposition if thats the true reason. Would be a chance for a late game comeback for team no vax depending on where this mutates from here.

Seems like they’d be at least as vulnerable to a mutation that escaped vaccination, and, like, yes, they’re bad faith morons, but it’s not like anyone has seriously said that no mutation could ever possibly escape immunity acquired from vaccination.

In order to score the winning goal though these folks would have to, you know, actually get vaccinated. And we know that isn’t happening.

Also the hell we would have gone through without vaccines is one I don’t want to contemplate, even if a single rando could theoretically have a personally better outcome under some scenarios.

Well depends if they could then vaccinate with something designed for the new strain. IIRC there is some evidence the Omicron booster actually worked better against Omicron if the recipient started with that as opposed to OG vax. Would be very on brand for this timeline if the end game is the ADE/antigenic sin fucking the vaxxed while the unvaxxed could take a shot against COVID-23 or w/e
and have strong protection.

Obviously Im not advocating not vaxxing, just didnt like what came out of that study.

The antivax machine has shifted in the past few months, greatly increasing the focus on how mandates are dumb because people who had covid don’t need it. Hopefully they’re right…
