In trying times like these, we’re here to help (facilitate the purchase or lease of a brand new Toyota Camry).
I still can’t get over seeing people wearing bullshit random homemade masks when I go out. Not even a month ago we were told masks would do more harm then good.
No, I was adding in the at home deaths to the official count, not using entire state numbers
Sounds like after I posted that worldometer said there are 3,000-odd deaths that are about to be added to the nyc count from that so I was pretty spot on
And two months ago we were told that this was a hoax that would never affect Americans. Life comes at you fast.
South Australia update:
South Australia has broadened its coronavirus response by launching a two-week “testing blitz” to encourage anyone in the state with symptoms to get checked for COVID-19.
So far, 38,000 South Australians have been checked, but no positive results were returned in the past 24 hours, with the total number of positive cases in the state remaining at 433.
Health authorities today announced a so-called “testing blitz”, which SA Premier Steven Marshall said would help to further tackle the coronavirus pandemic.
“Anybody in the community here in South Australia who has got any of the symptoms which lend themselves to coronavirus can go off to one of our 54 rapid testing and assessment clinics in South Australia and be tested,” he said.
The 38,000 people tested so far is 2.3% of the state’s population, this is the highest testing per capita of any state in the country, and Australia in turn ranks well by global standards.
Eradication might really be a possibility here. No new cases today and only 13 in the last week, over which we have averaged something like 400 to 500 tests a day. Of the state’s 433 cases, 279 have recovered and a mere 4 are community transmission from an unknown source, and as far as I’m aware we haven’t had any of those show up for some time now. Protecting the state’s borders is fairly trivial aside from truck drivers and so forth, who can be tested regularly.
A random thing that occurred to me today is that if the state manages to open up early it could be great for the state Aussie Rules football league, the SANFL. When I was a kid, it was huge here, like the most popular sporting competition, then Victoria’s VFL broadened nationally to become the AFL, with Adelaide getting teams in 1991 and 1997. Now hardly anyone cares about the state competition. If they’re the only game in town it could spark a big revival.
What do people think about the 2020 NBA season? If, as seems likely, it’s not feasible to have crowds still, will the season go ahead without crowds? Seems like people will be desperate for some live sport by then, even with a dead atmosphere.
Iran’s Guards unveil ‘magnetic’ virus detection tool
The commander of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps has unveiled a handheld device that he said could identify people infected with the coronavirus within 100m (330ft), Tasnim news agency reports.
“The basis of this device is to create a magnetic field based on a bipolar virus inside the device, so its antenna can focus on any place within a 100m diameter that is infected by the virus, and identify the infected place in five seconds,” Maj-Gen Hossein Salami was quoted as saying.
He added that its accuracy was "80%”, but provided no evidence.
Experts say the only reliable way to test for Covid-19 currently is by taking a swab of the nose or throat, which is sent off to a lab to look for signs of the virus’s genetic material.

Today is the first day that the Czech Republic has had a decrease in active cases. That is partly due to the massive increase in recoveries and a reduction in tests run (though it’s far better than the weekend at about 6,000 in a day).
They also had by far the lowest detected percentage at 1.4%.
So talked to my 90 year old father in Arizona.
They can still golf, the rule is 1 per cart.
The problem is, the last time he drove a car 4 years ago he made another car veer off the road into the dining room of the local pizza hangout. Thankfully it was 9am. We called it the Bob jobs program for the building repair.
He has severe macular degeneration. His playing partner has to tell him where his ball is. He is out driving a golf cart. Oy.
I’d like him to stay out there for the duration. Seeing as Michigan has no golf that may be a big influence assuming he doesn’t drive into a pond.
Yes
And then you have good old South Carolina
The worst is already over y’all!
Yeah, there’s a bunch of studies ongoing with that drug (Tocilizumab) as well as Siltuximab. I believe Siltuximab (another IL-6 binder) has also been showing some promise:
