This makes sense because the majority of infections in the US are probably logged about a week or so after they happen because mostly only people presenting at hospitals with symptoms are getting tested. And you can safely assume they’ve had it for a little while first due to asymptomatic period and then a few days to feel like shit. (Deaths on average take about 3-4 weeks from initial infection iirc)
Post weekend surge happening again. Those New Jersey and Louisiana numbers seem not so good. Today will be the largest day of confirmed deaths so far most likely.
In other Czech-related news, the government will test 17,000 people in the country (considered a representative sample) beginning next week. They’re testing to see who has recovered and who has antibodies for coronavirus. I guess the logic here is to see how many asymptomatic people may have unknowingly had covid19 and developed antibodies for it.
Speaking of testing, apparently the country has the capacity to do 20,000 tests per day. However, the lack of coordination among the labs has led to a backlog and a massive reduction in output. So yay for fucking this shit up government.
Regardless, here’s hoping things work out because it’s improving.
My numbers with the asymmetrical curves give 115k from 1.6 million (as measured currently).
Especially with easter this weekend.
Louisiana still trending the right way on new infections and hospitalizations, would be a lot that huge spike in deaths is weekend lag.
Just to give you some idea of the possible undercount the ONS (UK’s Office for National Statistics) just released it’s latest weekly death toll for the week ending 3rd April. 6,182 more deaths occurred that week than the average for the last 5 years. Covid19 is only registered as causing or contributing to 3,475 of these. The other 2,700 excess deaths remain unexplained.
Here’s a couple of graphs:
Haha yeah I would get spam calls every day but they have stopped.
It also means it’s pretty damn contagious
Yeah opening the country means no more bailout money for the average citizens. Only for the wealthy and elite. No matter how bad things get.
Governors seem to be pushing for opening things up and Mayors resisting. Cuomo doesn’t even want to say schools are closed for the rest of the year and De Blasio saying they are. Similar conflicts between Newsome and some mayors in CA.
Seems like everybody is having trouble getting their money. Sorry you’re going through the same shit. My original claim was on 3/15, approved to collect starting 4/1. Hopefully it all gets back dated but I’m not counting on seeing any of it ever at this point.
To make matters worse, I have been out of work since 1/31 because I had surgery. Right when I was able to go back to work is when everything shut down. At least my spending is way down currently too.
People don’t want to keep this up until May. People having to practice social distancing for two more years? We are guaranteed to end up much worse than we are now.
Probably be getting ponied on this, but the only thing I’ve seen ITT about people testing positive long, long after infection was from South Korea.
I spare you all a bunch of uninformed speculation about what this means about antibodies and so forth, but it does seem exceptionally difficult for people to shake this virus.
My colleague’s daughter and her BF (both mid-20s in NYC) are having major lingering symptoms. A few days of being fine, followed by another coughing fit and feeling like crap. They’re getting very discouraged because there seems to be no end in sight to the illness.
Australia has 6.5k official cases
Elon Musk is a clown show outside of Tesla cars and not even sure about that. The dive rescue situation sums it up.
His rockets are also quite good.
