COVID-19 (2): Turns out it's going to be pretty bad actually

Stuff like there being social consequences, like the match thing, is probably all you can reasonably do.

He is probably too far gone.

Online education just seems inevitable. I think we resisted it for this long because it threatens to upend our entire higher education business model. But I suppose this is off-topic.

No no no no no no no no.

The ONLY thing holding the rate down below 1 is social distancing. Any relaxation will go back above 1. We will have to accept that but if there is a background high level of infection still present then the raw numbers will still be heinous in terms of hospitalizations and deaths.

SK Et al yes. Most of Europe and US no.

The big question is whether some menu of measures short of shuttering all non-essential business can keep the rate below 1? Something like mandatory mask-wearing, no handshakes, no large gatherings, regular testing and hard quarantines of cases and their close contacts. Thatā€™s where we need to end up somehow.

If he blows Trump upā€” he gets fired and then there is no one left cause Brix seems corrupted.

He is on a tightrope and we need him in that tightrope.

I donā€™t think he is in Trumps corner at all. He is just doing what he has to stay in the room. He does not care about his own career or reputation- he just knows that we are better with him on the team than not. (My personal opinion and read of the man).

I agree that we will open up and that it should be with best practices and preferably contact tracing/testing. I do think we at least need to get in the low 10s of thousands of cases first so that if growth starts back up we can try to adjust before it gets out of control again.

I know the google Apple tracking thing worries people but face it- they already know where and when we are. Big brother is here, Orwell just missed that we would pay $100/month to carry him in our pockets.

Way too long and Iā€™ve not been happy with Nate using the IMHE model for some of his tweets, but still pretty informative.

But then see bobmanā€™s post. What value does he really have in the room where it happens? Heā€™s not pushed Trump to actually do much if anything. He can torch Trump and give his own media Q&As.

If Fauci gets canned, Biden needs to hire him ASAP and have him address the media after every Trump press conference.

I donā€™t think Biden has to ā€œhire himā€, but I think your point is that Trump can fire Fauci but he really canā€™t shut him up. All the networks and cable channels would be eager to hear from him repeatedly and I think his opinions would still be highly regarded by the general public.

The takes from the Facebook derposphere are that vitamin D deficiency is the issue with people having bad outcomes due to Covid. Their proof is that no homeless people are catching it. Quite the scientists they are.

Dr Shiva is quoted a lot.

Trump changed his Easter tune. The mere fact that Trump is unhappy with him says he is doing what he can behind closed doors. He is willing to drop some hints (pretty big one this weekend) about what he really thinks.

Donā€™t let perfect get in the way of good. Even if you think that ā€œgoodā€ is the lesser of two evils. People saying home in 2016. People decrying Biden now. Not my first second or third choice but team Joe all the way now.

Ghengis Khan for 2020, just not dumb Donald.

If everyone competent in government rage quits then will it be better or worse? Especially the one guy who has the potential to save a lot of lives- and I think probably already has.

So to recap:

  1. This didnā€™t make the cut for the televised show.

  2. They didnā€™t challenge him to his face.

Fucking wheel out the monitor, keep the cameras rolling, and show him the clips, broadcast his reaction to it and what he says next.

So they can say he was Deep State all along and now heā€™s so jilted by his firing that he is trying even harder to sink Trump with his fake virus hoax?

US Supreme Court cases to be held via teleconference

The US Supreme Court has announced that it plans to hear arguments in forthcoming cases by teleconference.

The arguments will be live-streamed on the internet for the first time in history, and will be available to the general public.

One of the fights that the public will be able to hear play out live will be over whether President Trumpā€™s tax returns can be shielded from US investigators.

Six of the courtā€™s nine justices are over the age of 65, putting them at particular risk if they get infected by coronavirus.

The only other time the court has met outside its 85-year-old building was in 2001, when anthrax was discovered in the mailroom. During that scare, the justices met across town in a federal courthouse.

Just run Fauci and call him Biden and have him talk about whatever he wants, nobody cares anyways.

Recovered patients testing positive again - South Korea

South Korea has reported that at least 116 people initially cleared of the new coronavirus have tested positive again.

Officials are looking into the cause of the apparent relapses but Jeong Eun-kyeong, director of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC), says the virus may have been reactivated rather than the patients being re-infected.

There are also concerns that laboratory tests are incorrectly telling people they are free of the coronavirus.
