But in this thread there are a lot that are exactly that: slimy disgusting cowards, scared to live what they talk. No judgment about you because you are plain not in this thread.

And I have many flaws: I make mistakes in judgment, I often plain don’t know what is the right thing in one or other situation, some might consider me disgusting, (like 6ix said it is preference), but one thing I am 100% not it is not a coward. I am one and I am generally pretty upfront about whom and what I like and why. So I allow myself here the judgment I made in my first post.

I hope that some will do some soul searching. I will do. This thread highlighted so many mistakes in judgment I did, that it is also mindblowing.

Thanks for the invite to this thread @microbet. I would very much prefer to not have another site, but like the idea of a sub forum with different posting and modding philosophies. I do worry that we’ve already got a small-ish user base and further fracturing it might not leave something viable behind.

I’ll be honest and say that, with a few noteworthy exceptions, I don’t have huge complaints with the actual modding decisions that are made here. The Sabo ban is terrible, Marty (and a few others) for whatever reason catches way more shit than he deserves from the mods, and the whole RFC thing is a farce, but largely the mods don’t do a whole lot, which is how it should be.

I do have serious issues with the attitudes and general in-group/out-group stuff that I see here every day, and a lot of that does come from the moderators and the group of 5-6 posters that are in their “group”. If you want to give Marty (just as an example - sorry Marty) a temp for crossing the line in an argument, fine, but the mods also treat him (and others) as though the things he’s arguing about have no legitimacy, no basis in reality. It’s gaslighting, plain and simple. And it all bleeds out into other discussions on the forum that exhibit the same dismissive condescending tone. Tbf, I’ve definitely engaged in the same kind of low energy mocking responses, so… glass houses and all that.

I agree that there’s a lot of groupthink here and a bunch of piling-on to heterodox opinions but I don’t know what to do about that. I’d try some stronger moderation against piling-on but I can’t say I’m convinced it would accomplish much. People are just much more willing to be confrontational towards people online than in real life. I’m like that myself. I would never tell people that their religion is a fairytale to their faces in real life but I’ll totally do it on here, so I can’t really act shocked when other people become way more aggressive in prosecuting their opinions in other areas.

Jmakin should have his powers stripped immediately. He should have all of his pms published and all of his actions published. He should be ip banned. He said that if he would never do anything like this. Frankly I am concerned what else he will do. It is fucking absurd that I have to make a god damned new account to say this. This is a legitimate security threat.

It was not clear as I started to read it that it were PMs. In fact I was pretty shocked and thought that Sabo started the thread. So… your accusation that I am keen to know your PMs is empty. I am thinking now how did I actually get that this are PMs… In fact only after the reading of the admin post, where JM stated that this are PMs.

I’m not really sure how to feel about any of this. There are several posters in this thread that I would miss and miss their posting if they left. That being said it is obvious that there is some serious hatred between some here at this point. It’s hard for me to see that being resolved.

I’ve said this several times but I’m quite certain that I could go and have a beer with anyone here and resolve any internet squabble we had. My feeling is that it’s easy to blast off steam or rip someone to shreds by typing a few lines into your phone. Hell I’ve done it plenty here unfortunately. I think we would be better trying to see each other as more than the avatar picture and sn (I mean I pretty much picture suzzer as Gritty crusing around Central America in his suv at this point).

That’s one of the reasons the best threads here are the more personal threads. The dog thread, the travel threads, the music threads, etc. That’s because sometimes I find out I have a lot in common on a personal level with someone where all of my previous interaction was combative in the politics threads.

I of course searched my name and it was posted I’m on team #justbanthem. That isn’t exactly true. Frankly I wish the people bickering would just drop it. Has anything productive come out of the thousands of back and forth posts? Or better yet talk it out via phone or text or something more personal. I don’t really want to lose 98% of people who post here. At this point though it feels like the cold war that has been brewing has gone full ww2 though. So the time for that may be over.

There’s zero real discussion on the threads that should should be the main draws and feature of this board any more in fact they’re basically dead. We failed, Mason and Klansky wins. Also, despite the fact that I’m mostly on their side and I like them and their posts, a special fuck you to the posters who continue to post on 2p2.
