Coronavirus (COVID-19)

So many people are in denial. Half the country? A lot.

My upstairs neighborhood/landlord is an ND and I could hear her on the phone during that conference yelling at somebody on the phone about the restrictions of them being able to do the tests on patients. Something about them having 20 tests and only being allowed to use them if they meet super strict guidelines (no surprise)

Oh god ok I found the idiotic boomer reaction grand champion. My friend told me his mom, his dad who has had a kidney transplant, and his 85 year old grandmother who uses a scooter to get around drove to mexico this weekend to take their boat out. How is that real? Its like they’ve decided they don’t have to see their grandkids and family right now so they’re just gonna live it up in these end of days.

California orders mandatory isolation for over-65s

California Governor Gavin Newsom has issued sweeping new restrictions for the US state.

He’s issued a compulsory isolation order for all residents aged 65 and above, and said the state is launching an effort to get get all homeless people indoors, in trailers and motels.

The governor has also asked for bars, breweries and pubs to close their doors. He stopped short of closing restaurants, but said they need to halve their occupancy and operate home deliveries and collections.

I’m moving into a new apartment on April 10th… Thankfully its 3 floors above me in the same building, otherwise I would be a wee bit concerned about that.

This is an interesting strategy. What if we required all the old people to stay home, let the young people mostly go about their business, let the virus move through the under 60 population and then used that for herd immunity. The death rate on the young population would be very low because we wouldn’t blow through hospital capacity, so like 99.8% would survive.

I don’t like the idea of forcing young people to take one for team boomer, but it might be in the best interest of the country overall.

Trump’s campaign spokesperson called everyone a liar and said there would be a million tests available this week with millions more to come and Trump retweeted her.

It was just another flat out lie.

No testing.

That’s the claimed policy of the UK government, and it’s highly controversial.

How about permanent isolation for boomers if you know what I’m saying

I assume I’m now allowed to yell at any Boomers I see in public.

edit: and offer to drop off their groceries…

I think the FDA has the authority to shut down any lab or stop anyone from testing who they don’t want to test.

Many high end university labs have been denied being able to process tests because they have not been certified.

But how will you pay for it?

This is fucked up.

Folks.

My office is staying open throughout. We are an essential service and literally keep the lights on (energy utility)

I’m going to be organising a risk assessment for all of my employees, with a view to understanding who to send home at different points.

What should I be asking?

  • Age
  • History of heart disease
  • diabetes
  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (for example emphysema, chronic bronchitis)
  • any other heart or long conditions

Do you have anyone who lives with you who has any of the above or is over the age of 60.

Will also do a review of people’s commutes and regular activities to encourage people to reduce exposure.

Currently my city is doing better than most, but it’s only a matter of time.

“Should self-isolate” vs. “orders mandatory isolation” are definitely different. We’ll see how it goes.
