Coronavirus (COVID-19)

They are going to die no matter what you do. People who are old and fragile are going to die from something, could be anything. When they get the flu, or a cold, or anything they end up in the hospital way way way more often than people who are not old and fragile. The problem is being old and fragile, it’s not whatever pushes them over the edge. You’re not going to keep people alive forever even if you put every person on earth in an antiseptic bubble.

It’s not freakish 85 year olds who are climbing Mt. Whitney either. It’s fragile people who are going to die from something and yeah, getting sick is a problem for them.

But, jeesus Christ. Society is cancelled. Everything is closed and you’re all “Let’s do this for the flu every year” and anyone who says “hold on” is wishing death on old people? It’s not a contest to see who can be the most extreme to save lives.

Be more specific please.

Your sandwich halves aren’t practicing proper social distancing. They should 6 feet apart from each other.

I had trouble with buttons disappearing. But I did a hard refresh and no more issues.

Georgia up to 64 confirmed cases (lol) and can only process 100 specimens (so 50 people) a day but in a week that should be doubled!!!

Also you must have traveled or had close contact with confirmed case to get tested. Definitely not “if you want to be tested you can get tested” as someone promised.

Georgia. Pretty effin ironic considering CDC headquarters is there.

I watch exponential growth all day every day in my career. People are going to really lose their shit when the numbers we have now are the per day increases.

I thought it was renodoc who is dealing with cancer and has to stay in a hotel for his treatments?

He’s posted this morning (on this subthread about him v renodoc). Do you accidentally have him blocked?

Probably not, I probably just missed it. Thanks.

A doctor who returned to Czech Republic from Greece a week ago has been diagnosed with coronavirus. Fifteen of his colleagues and all of the patients he has treated in that time now have to be quarantined.

Doctor’s in Olomouc, which is about 2 1/2 hours away by car from Prague. But shit’s bad there if 15 colleagues in a hospital can’t be there to treat patients.

Delivery’s been slow on ventilators for whatever reason. Medical equipment is lacking as a result. I suppose the government travel restrictions have had some unexpected side effects. 100,000 fast-acting tests are going to be delivered from China to the Czech Republic for next week.

There was also a cyberattack at the University of Brno Hospital which has set back treatment there.

So far, 34 new infections today taking us up to 175, about 70 of them are in Prague. Seems to be a theme that there are few in the morning and a big spike later that day. The last three days, the number of cases have gone up at a rate of 20-25%. Likely going to be a trend.

So, not everything is fine and dandy here and economists are predicting some serious issues with the economy in about 2 weeks.

Most noticeable things

  1. Buttons missing. If I hover over where they’re supposed to be I can click the blank space and it works, but I can’t see them

  2. Posts won’t auto load for viewing unless I exit thread and re-enter. I’ve had this problem before on other threads.

I’m off to my local pub for lunch and I’ll swing by the grocery store just to see the desolation. Will report back.

This situation of quarantining people who have come in contact with a person with the virus has occurred multiple times in multiple countries. Is quarantine extra precautionary? Does it last the standard 14 days? Why don’t they simply test those people and if they are negative let them continue to work? Maybe the tests are somewhat unreliable and/or take a long time for the results to come back??

If these are dumb questions, feel free to say so.

This might have gotten lost in the late night shuffle - but I think everyone should read this article. This guy obviously really knows his stuff. I feel like I finally have something of an answer as to why some flus disappear in the winter.

I’m not sure if it’s extra precautionary. But better safe than sorry.

Yes. However, a person can go outside in unusual circumstances like if they live alone, have no neighbors, and need to walk their dog. Walk out fast, wear a mask, and get your ass inside immediately after your dog takes a shit.

Because the virus is not always detectable immediately. They may have it in an undetectable amount and may spread it before symptoms are obvious.

Normally, they test each person twice in order to avoid false positives. Test speed varies based on what test is used. Some test for the formation of antibodies that fight it which are supposedly faster but less reliable. Others test for the virus itself take longer to process but are more reliable.
