Coronavirus (COVID-19)

FR, all you people who had a cold six weeks ago had a cold. ~Every old person you know would be dead or dying right now if it were covid-19.

If 20% need weeks of oxygen, then when this hits hard everywhere then that’s gonna be a bottleneck and affect the fatality rate.

I wonder how many people the US can put on oxygen for 3-6 weeks at the same time and how fast we can ramp up that capability.

They’re going to be converting gymnasiums at some point probably like the Chinese had to do.

Why would you?

I’m not able to bench 200 lbs. I blame Coronavirus.

I dunno - parking hell, extremely aggressive shopping vibe, fistfights over samples, 30 minute checkout lines on a good day?

I get it. If I had a family I’m sure Costco would be a godsend. But for a single dude it’s just not worth the hassle for me.

But the funny part to me is that people run to Costco in a time of panic, when they know it’s going to be a madhouse, when your local CVS probably has plenty of TP for slightly higher prices. I feel like on some level people feed off of and get a rush or something from the buying panic, which exists at Costco on a low level even in non-coronavirus times.

Rand Paul, M.D. voted no bc he didn’t get cuts to foreign aid.

To expand on this:

https://www.cdc.gov/pertussis/about/faqs.html

Q: Do pertussis vaccines protect for a lifetime?

A: Pertussis vaccines are effective, but not perfect. They typically offer good levels of protection within the first 2 years after getting the vaccine, but then protection decreases over time. Public health experts call this ‘waning immunity.’ Similarly, natural infection may also only protect you for a few years.

In general, DTaP vaccines are 80% to 90% effective. Among kids who get all 5 doses of DTaP on schedule, effectiveness is very high within the year following the 5th dose – at least 9 out of 10 kids are fully protected. There is a modest decrease in effectiveness in each following year. About 7 out of 10 kids are fully protected 5 years after getting their last dose of DTaP and the other 3 out of 10 kids are partially protected – protecting against serious disease.

CDC estimates that in the first year after getting vaccinated with Tdap, it protects about 7 out of 10 people who receive it. There is a decrease in effectiveness in each following year. About 3 or 4 out of 10 people are fully protected 4 years after getting Tdap.

Keeping up to date with recommended pertussis vaccines is the best way to protect you and your loved ones.

On the topic of cancelled conferences, HIMSS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society) just canceled their conference in Orlando that was scheduled to start on Monday. Nearly 50,000 were anticipated to attend before COVID-19 kicked in.

They had literally just announced that Trump would be speaking there earlier this week, so I thought they would power through with it, but I guess not.

Are there more cases out there? All the evidence says yes

Keep these numbers as low as possible (I wonder what is the easiest way to do that)

That’s pretty big. I’m guessing some of the April/May conferences are waiting to cancel and hoping that things get under control, but I doubt that’ll happen.

Welp one of our clients took a call from her niece, who is a nurse, while in our office. Per said niece there are two new cases in Scottsdale. Shit is gonna be wild when all the olds here who are the ones saying, “HURR DURR no panic because Fox” start getting sick.

3rd hand info, but can’t say I’m shocked if it’s true.

Such a wonderful time to have a compulsive liar as president.

Definitely not shocked. It’s likely all over the place now in various stages. Within a week or so it’ll be hard to find a major city where it isn’t. Only lack of testing will keep it from being reported everywhere.

I feel bad hearting a post like this, so I’ll instead say agree 100%. Shit’s going to get wild soon.

I wonder if Covid-19 will be the death knell for paper money.
