Cooking Good Food - Ramens of the day

the green ones come from the juicing trend that happened a few years back. I had the same attitude, then I tried one with kale and spinach and ginger and some other shit and it was actually pretty good. I was surprised.

Mine is typically:

1 cup nf greek yogurt
1 cup soy milk
1 scoop protein powder
2 stalks of kale / handful of spinach
1 cup frozen berry mix
1 frozen banana
1/4 cup frozen mango

The place I used to work did actually have lots of other stuff to add in like spirulina and protein powder and whatever. They seemed like a really convoluted way to get nutrition and ruin a delicious beverage at the same time. If you need greens, eat some greens imo. Don’t stick them in a blender with strawberries. That’s just weird.

I’m interested in smoothies partly as a way to decrease food waste by making use of things like wilting greens or overripe bananas.

For a long time, I got most of my greens in smoothies. It was an easy way to increase the amount of greens I was consuming. I can’t eat salads every day, but I can pound a smoothie even if it doesn’t taste great.

Those all look delicious as-is. No blender required.

Spinach has almost no flavor. Start with a little and keep adding more until you taste it. You’ll be surprised how much you can add.
Kale is tougher. Green kale (that has a hard stem and crinkly leaves) tastes bitter but if you add something acid it’s supposed to counter it. Black Kale (that comes in nice leaves) tastes way better IMO.
Chard is really good. You can get a mix of colors.

Like you said, any wilting greens in your fridge, just smoothie them.

My smoothies when I was a health nut were crazy expensive and tasted awful usually.

Handful of greens.(all kinds)
Fresh cut fruit (all kinds) Note: Buy frozen, fresh in smoothies is a waste.
Fresh Berries (all kinds) (again dumb)
Pumpkin seeds
hemp hearts
acai powder
cacao nibs
Goji berries
Chia seeds
Green tea
A glug of kefir

Now if I do a smoothie it’s
Greens
frozen fruit
water

Too much acidic fruit gives me heartburn (fuck i’m old) so I use ginger. The spice of it cuts down the bitterness of the greens and adds a kick without burning my insides, lol

Red bell pepper soup, one of my favorite soups for #SimmerSaturday, always comes out hearty and full of flavor.

Made the Sesame Chicken from up thread, not too bad. I think I need to cut the chicken into smaller bits and I probably should have checked to see if I was supposed to remove the chicken to reduce the sauce instead of just dumping the sauce in once the chicken was browned. Overall, way easier than I thought making it at home would be.

It’s copper river salmon season bros! Smoked some tonight, forgot to take pics though sadly. Gonna do crispy skin in the pan tomorrow.

My wife will do a green smoothie if we get them out but most places make them too bland for my liking. All my home smoothie ingredients come from Trader Joe’s: juice (they used to have a carrot juice that was perfect but it’s gone so now I use mango passion fruit), frozen fruit (can mix all kinds obviously, only bummer is they don’t have frozen bananas as a separate item), and a small, creamy yogurt that they sell in packs of six. Not the healthiest but they taste great! Spinach is probably fine but I don’t want my smoothie to taste like grass.

Perfect with grilled cheese sandwiches.

Fun aside - when I was a kid one of my friends thought it was gorilla cheese sandwich. I still call them that now.

My wife’s younger brother apparently used to think it was called a ‘girl cheese’ when they were little kids. Like my wife would be asking their mom for a girl cheese and would eventually receive a grilled cheese sandwich.

So my brother in law called them boy cheeses. Mah can I have a boy cheese?

I can never get jerk chicken / pork to turn out. Any tips or tricks?

Ten minutes?

Shrimp Fried Rice.

I think I’m going to make some sesame chicken and use cake flour as batter.

My bad, I thought it was a roast

I’m making chili with ground beef. Browning the meat - is it better to crumble finely or do not more like tiny meatballs of ground beef?
