The counterpoint to your thesis is that people saw grocery prices go up less than they did in the rest of the developed world and concluded that life was over and the whole American experiment was a bust and that the people keeping those grocery prices down were to blame for it all. It doesn’t take much to make people lose their shit, but unfortunately, they’ve now empowered people who’ll be shameless about entrenching their power in the face of the next panic.
That’s definitely a hot take. I’ll give you that.
Whatever you say boss
Just don’t even care. Deport everyone. Grapes are now $20
I can’t do this for 5 more years
Lol, almost positive this was like the first thing on Project 2025, but sure, dude has never heard of it.
Here’s John Oliver talking about schedule F and what it could mean for the presidency.
Honestly I’m not watching any of this stuff. Me personally.
I’m going to be just as surprised as the normies when it happens.
it’s crazy how a week later we’re still wondering if messaging was bad when people thought voting for someone they consider literally hitler was better than what the dems were offering
we have so badly lost to white supremacy
People need to come to terms with the fact that while the DNC is a huge grift, it’s also true that a majority of Americans willfully voted for fascism.
The post-election period in 2016 was very much characterized by libs being triggered and freaking out and the right lol’ing and gloating. This time around has been very different, as it seems like more people feel they are freed from the obligation of sounding the alarm and/or protecting people. Which in turn is creating an eerie quiet.
I am not sure if you mean:
- Of course the messaging was bad, these people chose Hitler.
or
- What messaging would have worked for people who prefer Hitler?
for me it’s a bit of both. trumpeting to people that they are doing fine when they very much are not doing fine and ignoring massive groups of people they just assumed would vote for them is classichillary ‘16 bs that he exploited the first time. you cannot really blame the average moron voter for going for trump when he’s showing up on things like rogan, who the average 90 iq person thinks has intelligent takes and good guests. Trump DOMINATED the social media ground game especially with new voting aged voters (allegedly at the direction and advice of baron trump, which is terrifying). He is playing the game so well that he’s telling people he is hitler and will do hitler things and people just go oh well ok. That is a democrat party problem. If your choices are soft fascism or hardcore fascism people can be manipulated to the latter pretty easily.
Counterpoint: consumer sentiment on the economy has already magically flipped as Republicans now think everything is fine despite nothing having changed. People will believe the propaganda.
Disgaree. Its a people problem. We could have promised them a thousand ponies but if they didnt think the dems were strongman enough to pull it off they were going to go with the fascist 99 times out of 100
this might be true but i’ll still take my chances with offering the ponies over ‘everything is great nothing will change’ which is almost never the correct answer even if everything is actually great. Kamala’s answer to the what would you do differently than Biden question on the View is one of the things that did her in.
Trump definitely had a better team around him this time around. whoever convinced him to stop doing any more debates pretty much won him the election cause you know Trump’s ego would have never allowed him to make that decision on his own
What we’ve got here is failure to communicate. Some men, you just can’t reach.
But seriously, a central question for me going forward is how much effort should be spent persuading people vs fighting them.
Or, I can regard both of those as lost causes and just try to do whatever small incremental bits of good are possible in my immediate orbit.
“I consider him like Hitler but I voted for the man.”
Amazing.
I see people wondering if trump is a liar when he backed some rfk stuff but then hired a big pharma rep as his chief of staff. I have seen a few people concerned they may have made a mistake but I agree it’s much more quiet than 2016.
