Why is there no point in caring anymore? If anything we need to care about our communities and the people in danger from the trump administration even more.

Why would the cases be dropped and not just suspended for four years?

I guess you could argue that if thereā€™s nothing hanging over his head, heā€™s less likely to try to pull the Emperor for Life thing.

Is it bargaining and then denial, or the other way around?

Denial is first.

No itā€™s not.

One person on twitter whining about Dems having election stolen is just as bad as Trump destroying faith in our elections.

ITā€™S THE SAME THING DUM DUM DEMS.

Everyone: We got him! See you in the slammer with a bright orange jumpsuit to match your face, Donny boy!

Trump: Wiggles out of federal prosecution with ease.

Some enterprising gumshoes trying to save their jobs.

The theory that I saw is if Garland shuts down the Smith special counsel, that will allow Jack Smith the opportunity to release a FINAL REPORT.

ya know, for #CONSEQUENCES.

otherwise, the incoming Attorney General Aileen Cannon would just bury everything, including Smith himself.

I wrote this after Bidenā€™s debate debacle.

"This is such a mess. The Biden performance was mortifying. I think he needs to step aside. And yeah, I think that leaves Harris as the candidate, unless she decides somebody else has a better chance. And I think itā€™s fairly certain that someone else would have a better chance. But I doubt sheā€™s going to say that. WAAF. Really badly.ā€˜ā€™

I think Harris did better than many of us expected she would. But it was a real challenge. The mistake came when the Party appeared to be fine with Biden, not only running, but running essentially unopposed and on his record. The Kamala strategy pretty much had to flip to distance yourself from Biden (and the administration you work in) and lay out a new vision. No wonder she had a hard time explaining some policies, but despite that, she did way better than I could have imagined. In my opinion, the Party needs to get its shit together. Find someone popular, even if you have to stray outside of politicians to do it. The Republicans do that all the time. See Trump, Reagan, Arnold S., Jack Kemp, etc. But my point is that we were drawing really, really thin almost from the get-goā€¦

I think it would be very easy for the pro-Biden crowd to just claim that they ran bad in the dementia lottery. There is really no way to have predicted how precipitously Biden would have declined in 4 yrs. Trump didnā€™t decline as much. Bernie is older and heā€™s still sharp. Biden just fell of a fucking cliff at some point and while there was a not-insignificant chance of that, there was also a great chance of that not being the case.

Certainly, if in 2020 you think that Biden is the best guy to take on Trump you have to take that chance. But the problem there might be the underlying assumption. Letā€™s set that aside for now.

In a different world where Biden doesnā€™t decline much, he checksall the boxes: straight, white, and male. Also he is incumbent (for real, not like Harris), which is huge. And if not senile, maybe he can actually articulate his policies (Though this may not have worked, since Harris did that and it didnā€™t help, but my theory is that she lost for other reasons).

If Biden doesnā€™t decline and he beats Trump again, then all the Bernie ratfuckers get to say, ā€œI told you soā€. E-dems get to keep e-dem-ing and weā€™re probably (but not definitely) done with Trump.

As much as I think Biden was mid, I really always thought that a lucid Biden would have shipped. Given this result, Iā€™m less sure now. But thereā€™s a decent chance that WAAF because Biden didnā€™t have slightly different genetics (with respect to cognitive decline).

Honestly I think in a post Citizens United world, with billionaires controlling the media, and a system of government as vulnerable as the US, this was going to happen eventually, maybe a bit sooner than we thought. It sucks that it was someone as woefully incompetent as Trump, but the fact that itā€™s happening with someone as inept as Trump just kind of proves it though.

I wouldnā€™t say itā€™s Bidenā€™s decline in particular, or Kamalaā€™s campaign, sure maybe better Dem messaging or having less shitty policies could have delayed this for a while longer, but if it wasnā€™t Trump it would be someone else much more competent down the road. But man it just stings that itā€™s fucking clown show Donald Trump. But this just feels like a foregone conclusion though, in the history of the world sowing fear and doubt to the masses and the appeal to an authoritarian leader is just so extremely effective and has been for thousands of years and itā€™s no different now.

Anyway Iā€™ll have to check out of politics for a while. But the burn it all to ground argument does sound much more appealing.

Biden was unpopular as hell, dementia or no dementia. A lucid Biden would have lost in roughly the same fashion as Kamala. Sundowning Biden was headed for a Mondale style defeat.
