Anyone heard what his burn rate is? How much all his properties cost to keep operating? Maybe he’ll get smart and sell off everything but Mar-Lago (assuming he can) and just retire there and creep out people getting married there.
Yeah, if Trump loses, he’s done. He might bitch and moan and file lawsuits for a while, but he’ll slink back to Florida and grift there. He’ll enjoy the weirdos making their visit to MAGA Mecca, but Republican politicians will be done with him. He’s in horrible shape physically and mentally now - even his most diehard allies in D.C. won’t support him in 2028.

If he sticks around, it could really make 2028 a cakewalk for the Dems though, because you know even if/when he’s finally passed over, he’ll threaten a 3rd-party run, get tens of thousands of write-ins from rubes even in places he’s not on the ballot, etc. Hell, you even might see him steal a South Dakota or an Alaska or something from the real GOP nominee, which would be hilarious.

I could see Biden pardoning him on the federal stuff and Florida refusing to extradite him to any of the multiple states that might seek to put him in prison.

Republican politicians would have liked to have been done with Trump a long time ago, wouldn’t they? The electorate forced them to support him, and if the electorate does that again, what will the politicians do? They could have gotten rid of him through impeachment, after he had already lost to Biden, and they didn’t. They’re afraid of his supporters. So I think Trump and his followers still have a large degree of control if he loses.

They had so many off ramps and refused to take them. I can’t for the life of me figure out why. All they had to do was convict on impeachment. Sure it may have stung for a while, but it would’ve been long term good for the party. I’ll never understand why a shrewd politician like McConnell didn’t pull the plug on their Frankenstein monster when he had the chance

The Trumpers are way to far gone to ever get that base back in a reasonable timeframe. We’d be looking at a ten party system with the Dems winning everything for years until the Rs or some other party got their shit together and could somehow reel those folks back in.

Meh, it’s a two party system. I agree that it would have been bad for Republicans to lose MAGA voters, but still the system is already rigged. DeSantis would have just run on “Justice for Trump. Empty Noise. Blah Blah”
Well, that’s what we thought would happen, yeah. But Trump didn’t let it happen. That’s the point, no one stood up to him because they knew it would be suicide.
if trump was impeached then desantis could have just run and united republicans. i dont see it splitting apart although maybe they lose a few MAGA voters sure.
