Convicted felon Donald J. Trump thread XXX: President Elect

Yea there was a poll a while back that showed that a large majority of Hispanic people had never heard of it, and that was used to paint activists as out of touch. Very doubtful that latinx vs whatever is driving anyone one way or another. It just doesn’t have much salience.

Yeah there’s a few reasons for Trump gaining with latinos. Some of it is that they’ve come from failed left wing countries and are naturally skeptical of those policies. We can debate the reasons for that, but I don’t want to just dismiss their fears as unfounded. Some of it is that Trump’s strong man “I fight for you” image resonates with those communities. I think there’s opportunities for dems there. I’m looking at Colin Allred’s race as a bellwether. If he closes the margins or god willingly knocks off Cruz, I think that’s a pretty good playbook for how dems can get back some of their losses with minorities and younger men.

Yes, it is dislike of LGBTQ and other minority groups outweigh Trump’s dislike of my minority group. Final stage is “you know, Trump has some fair points about my minority group.”

Women are actually a majority so guess I should have also specifically added misogyny.

I think the real word is disenfranchised. They are citizens both with no power at the federal ballot box.

For eight years Dems haven’t done shit to win over Latinos or really any group besides #resistance wine moms. Their whole plan is to just hope Trump says something so racist that it causes them to all vote for Democrats. To be fair, this seems to be happening right now.

It’s a reason, not the reason. Politicians slice and dice and group and label but sometimes people don’t like that. It’s the same kind of mistake Trump just made. He thought Puerto Ricans are one way when they’re another.

Based on the FB posts from the Latino hiking group I’m in:

LatinX: snooze

Abortion: I’m awake

Gender panic issues like the Olympic boxer: 4-alarm fire

Goddammit, this is where you break out a tablet/laptop and play the video in front of him.

That’s right Donnie, never apologize to the woke mob. Double down even!

We’re in year 9? of the “I barely know the guy!” defense and they still don’t have the video locked and loaded when they ask the question. Good job, good effort!

CNN showed Vance’s response earlier, too. Very similar. “I didn’t see the comment, maybe it was a racist joke because [the reporter who just asked me the question] says it is, maybe it’s not, I can’t comment because I didn’t see. But what I can say is I think we need to stop being so offended by every little thing in this country.”

No surprise. Deny and double down is their MO. Will it matter? Who knows.

And I disagree it happened too late for people to memory hole. By Tuesday it will be out of the news cycle.

Puerto Ricans are waiting to hear whatever bullshit Trump is going to serve up and he’s making them wait. Then tonight he’s going to go into a heavily Puerto Rican area for a rally. I hope he gets a warm welcome.

The amount of PR voters outside of PR is a tiny number and the amount that will change their vote over this is a tiny fraction of that. Hard to see this mattering. Like half my wife’s family is Puerto Rican(she has something like 14 PR aunts and uncles) and I haven’t heard a peep from any of them on this IRL or on social media.

I think this is completely wrong, at least the first part (and probably the second part, but there’s no way to know right now). Seems pretty critical in PA:

Across Pennsylvania, about 600,000 eligible voters are Latino.

More than 470,000 of them are Puerto Ricans - one of the largest concentrations in the country and a potential deciding factor in a state where polls show Harris and Trump in an extremely tight race.

I mean like with anything else, it’s gonna move the needle by some amount, but of course whether it “matters” or not is gonna depend on the margins. Like if PA is the tipping point and one candidate wins it by 20k? Fine, it didn’t matter. If Kamala wins and the margin is like <1000? You can’t tell me it didn’t.

There are 5.8 million potential voters total outside of PR. Maybe what half of them are registered to vote? Some small fraction are in swing states. Then you have to figure out how many will actually change their votes.

It’s likely less than 10k votes. Will that matter? Maybe?

All we have are maybes at this point. Hopefully we can at least agree it’s not helping Trump, lol.
