Did the NYTimes finally get enough XP to unlock the R-word?

I mean this might actually have an impact because it’s so close to Election Day that people can only see the racist act and not opportunistic Dems reminding everyone that they have to vote for them because the other guy is racist.

Step 1: Round them up.
Step 2: Realize the process takes time and money if not outright impossible.
Step 3: Come up with a final solution to solve the issue.

Yes, I’m sure Tony fucking Hinchcliffe is on top of Puerto Rican sanitation policy and issues.

To be clear, I’m not in support of the joke, whatever its origin.

Oh, I know. Wasn’t mad you pointed it out, was making fun of anyone on the right who decides to try to use that as justification

We as a society need to stop making “it’s just a joke, it’s comedy” a blanket excuse for people to say the most vile shit they can think of.

I don’t think that’s quite right, either. Art should piss some people off!!

You can do racial humor in a way that’s funny. Early Chapelle did this. Andrew Schulz does this well at times (he has a bit on blackface that’s pretty good).

I have tolerance for comedians who I think are mostly well intentioned but have maybe told some jokes that missed the mark or didn’t age well. Like every comedian whose ever done a gay joke. But some of this 2020+ MAGA humor is just mean for the sake of being mean, and barely tries to be funny.

Yeah I don’t think I agree with that either. Warhol’s art pissed plenty of people off, and imo to some extent that was almost the intention - to question the nature of art. But then there was also the element where it was a money machine. I guess that’s part of what bothers me about that kind of pop art - the artist simultaneously making fun of the establishment but also raking in money and becoming the establishment themselves.

I think I posted about this when I watched the Brady roast - I do think pushing boundaries makes for good comedy. But I think it’s essential to punch up rather than down. People like Hinchcliffe act like they’re punching up solely because they’re saying what they’re not supposed to say while completely ignoring the content of what they’re saying. So in the end it’s just tired racist tropes, and just becomes a bullshit way to justify his “right” to say them.

“The Establishment’s” job is to slow the rate of change, which it does a pretty good job at. But it’s even better at absorbing change and making it the new normal. Particularly if there is money involved.

And imo it’s fine to offend some people’s sensibilities. Louis CK had a bit about necrophilia, donating his body to a necrophiliac etc that had me howling in laughter. My wife, who’s worked as a nurse for all of her life, including caring for the elderly and taking care of their dead bodies once they’re gone, failed entirely to see the humor and found it pretty offensive. Which I totally get.

That’s not out of line though. There was no political point, just straight up trying to be funny.

He was a pretty morose, unsatisfied guy. But his take was that it had the crime of the big city with none of the amenities, and the weather of course.

It’s pretty standard to criticize your upbringing, hometown etc but get pissed when someone else who isn’t from there does it.
