For those who haven’t explored the non-golf desert towns in that general area: they are super cool, but super super weird. The crowd at that rally was probably 50% Palm Springs/La Quinta/Rancho Mirage/Indian Wells golf republicans, and 50% aggrieved racist desert weirdos. There’s also a Marine Air Base in Twentynine Palms. Other notable thing about Twentynine Palms: their casino hosted my highest ever live tournament result (2nd).
