I saw on the webz last night that Big10 schools are in talks to try to start the season by mid Oct.
Why do you feel that college football is exploitation?
Lol?
Because the labor isnât being compensated fairly. Chiefly at big P5 programs, a workforce made up of poor teenagers are sacrificing 3 (minimum) of their prime earning years to make their colleges an obscene amount of money. In a sport where coaches makes up to 10M a year, thereâs an issue where players are making $0 while risking their lives and bodies.
What do you think happens to a football player that suffers a career ending injury? Do you think Big State University pays their medical bills for their chronic issues the rest of their lives?
I quit watching when I heard about the multiple kids that killed themselves after suffering debilitating effects of CTE.
Itâs a billion-dollar industry where the content creators get compensated with absolutely nothing other than a joke communications degree and a distant chance at becoming an NFL star. Itâs the sleaziest industry in America right now outside of organized crime, and Iâm not even sure if this is fair to drug dealers.
And all this was before COVID hit. Like now weâre demanding they hit the field and get exposed to whatever the long-term consequences of COVI-19 are.
Iâm pretty familiar with the debate. I just wanted to hear your thoughts on the matter.
Iâve got some points to make on this that I will share later. Making a run in the BOL 50K.
Dude, just no. Ill be back tomorrow and you guys can dunk on me then but this entire post is hyperbole.
I am extremely worried about tomorrow.
Iâll say this. I have a hard time listening to anyone opine on the subject (encouraging watching) that didnât play football in some meaningful capacity. I played all throughout Middle and High school, and got at least 2 concussions. We played against quite a few D1 players that knocked the shit out of us. I would never have played if I knew the CTE risk, and I havenât watched college or pro in 4 years now iirc. And this is from someone who played DFS, fantasy, bet games, etc.
My cousin has worked for multiple NFL teams and worked for a P5 team in college. She was very close with a Heisman winner that took his own life in his 40s, who was almost certainly suffering from CTE.
Just a little more insight on why I thought there would be an announcement today. We were in meetings all day yesterday and very little of it dealt with what has been discussed over the past 2 weeks. And last night my drive had multiple gamefilms uploaded to it with little information as to why.
Nothing new was said today either but conversations sound interesting.
LSU getting herd immunity on team so they can play the season without interruptions
fucking stupid man, bet the teams going to be great on cardio conditioning.
Say hello to the San Diego State Aztecs of Carson CA. First they take our pro team, now theyâre taking our college team. Whatâs next: the San Diego HS Cavers of Carson?
What sucks here is that SDCCU (fka San Diego, Jack Murphy, Qualcomm) Stadium wonât have a proper send-of. Iâm crying. I really wish, with 20-20 hindsight, I went to last yearâs Holiday Bowl⌠the last game there (Iowa 49, USC 24, 2019-12-27).
ETA: The 2nd last game, and the last Aztec game, was against BYU (SDSU 13-3, 2019-11-30). I went to the 3rd last game against Fresno State (SDSU 17-7, 2019-11-15).
I saw a Chargers - Raiders game there roughly a decade ago. That place was a shit hole.
Now, now, now⌠I grew up there in a literal sense of the word.
Yeah, they stopped doing preventive maintenance and deliberately ran the building down after the Padres left. That was all part of the evil Spanos clanâs scheme to get the taxpayers to give them a buncha real estate to develop (and a free stadium too) campaign. That was also all superficial.
The stadium itself is fine, and could have been renovated for another 50 years of use.
Think its coming sooner rather than later fellas. Hopefully the vote included a single out of conference game for each school. Preferably in state.
Itâll be interesting to see how much of a crowd SDSU draws in LA. They will be competing with two NFL teams, and two Pac-12 teams, in the same market.
Itâll also be frigginâ hilarious if the Aztecs can manage to paint Dignity Health red & black on game day⌠the same venue where the pitiful LA Football Clippers were the NFLâs laughing stock for three long seasons.
Gjge big ten
This might swing the election for Trump no lie
Welp, Big Ten football is back:
For what itâs worth, Ohio State has been testing a shitload of students, both on campus and off - averaging several thousand each day. The positivity rate is hanging around at less than 5%.
This doesnât mean that I think returning to football is a good idea. Just that a school like OSU is likely feeling good about how the return to campus has gone so far.
