Once you start following college basketball a little closer you realize cinderella stories only apply to small schools from remote conferences.
If a 12 seed belonging to the big10/12, SEC, ACC, Pac12 makes it to the final 4 that’s just a team that underperformed all year and then ran hot in the tourney.

I’d have to see more but I wasn’t impressed with their game yesterday. He did throw in a 2-1-2 matchup zone at times but overall their defensive execution was bad. Kept going way under M2M screens to leave shooters open and were getting burned on low man / backside rotation. Hard to say how much is schemes vs coaching vs personnel but their defensive efficiency dropped precipitously when Tang left while K-State suddenly got much better. Seems like the kind of guy whose best days could be behind him and gets left in the dust by the younger, smarter coaches which would be a full-fledged disaster hire.
Sounds like the immediate future of UK basketball will be determined here in the next 24 hours.
I still don’t think Cal is getting fired. Also Cal doesn’t want to leave, he still thinks he has one last ride. AD doesn’t want to fire him. AD has basically allowed Cal to operate on an island up to this point. So I think AD is basically going to say, look Cal, you have to start doing things my way or the highway. I don’t know if Cal agrees to that. But if he does that it is now Cal and AD on the firing line if the next year is anything less than a final four.
I will still cheer hard for UK if Cal is the coach next year, but shit is going to be toxic all year if Cal is the coach another year.

I think they have a better chance of missing the tournament than making a Final Four, but I’m not sure Cow even makes it that far. They play Duke in the Champions Classic on Nov 12. Given how bad they’ve looked in many of those games the previous years, it’s not hard to imagine they get cooked again by the top-rated freshman class (and their most-hated rival). If Flagg gives them 40/20 and Duke’s freshmen look dangerous and competent, what’s this fraud going to say then?
It is easy to wish for Smith to have success, and similarly easy to wish nothing but pain and suffering upon Pat Chun and UW.

Is this just about the first round tournament exits? Yeah it’s embarrassing to get bounced by seeds in the teens, but you still had a good enough season to get matched up against them in the first round.
Maybe it’s the nature of the beast, but it seems weird to negate what are otherwise 3 pretty good seasons because of 2 bad games. Or is there something more to it?
It’s just general lack of postseason success. UK is 2-8 in their last 10 postseason games…and they were favored in all 10. If you are going to lose to UNC Wilmington at Rupp, and have a 3 game losing streak at Rupp, and try to claim “Don’t worry, this team is built for March”. Maybe you shouldn’t go 0-2 in the postseason.

So UK AD today made which looks to be an outstanding hire for WBB. Also AD decided to give Cal another year. His legacy is going to be defined by the second decision. Rooting it was the correct choice.
