Gonna be an interesting rest of the season.

No, but everyone fondly remembers Miyagi-先生, so having the show explore his back story is a no-brainer.

I personally don’t remember a single thing from II or III. Actually I barely remember most of Karate Kid I.

We should rewatch them.

I remembered thinking KKIII was terrible and hadn’t seen it since it came out, but I watched the trilogy again last year and all three movies are bangers.

If you watch them again in the glow of Cobra Kai, you’ll see the real impact of revisiting the stuff in the current show. It both encourages new audiences to explore the “prequel” series and adds new depth for old viewers who haven’t seen the movies in a while.

A terrible analogy is if you imagine the Star Wars prequels coming out first, then we got the Eps IV-V-VI. People would be like wtf, are you serious? I know it was revolutionary at the time, but…weren’t the last two barely watchable??

But a better analogy is how The Mandalorian retroactively plugs leaks and adds unexpected depth to familiar stories.

Haven’t watched, but I assume everything has gone downhill since Season 2, Episode 2.

If they were smart, they’d make that scene the center of their marketing campaign. Give people the impression that’s the whole series. They’ll be too invested in the show by the time they find out.

Yeah I was on s2e9 when I read ggggoreos review on s3, but in deep on 4 and it’s been fine.

Binging it, there was no startling change or major drop off. It’s definitely silly, but the entire premise is silly,

Never going to believe KKIII is a banger!

Let’s put it on the watch party schedule!

Yeah I have been spinning in circles trying to nail this down. I gave up and just assume everyone is both good and bac at various times.

Only character I really don’t care for is Johnny’s son, he just has this weird 90s after school special vibe to him, completely humorless.

How about Daniel’s son?

And he got in shape in a month and a half.

The only characters I feel we’re 100% against is probably Kreese, with Kyler and Tory right behind. (And that one guy who is Daniel’s competition.)

Laughed way more than I should have at that,

Lol I didn’t get it, that’s funny

In terms of rooting for Tory I was okay with her until season finale last year, but then she brings it back a bit this season at first and then she goes full psycho.

So…

TOOK 29 episodes to get the one person I was looking for? I just decided she didn’t want to be involved

Anyone think KKII guy has aged into looking like Gilbert Gottfried?

This interview was taken in June 2019, well before season three was written.

It’s 1986 and Ralph hasn’t seen Elizabeth in three years since they wrapped filming on Karate Kid. He saw her at the World Series game of '86 and thought it’d be a joyous reunion, but all she wanted to know was why they’d written her character out of the sequel like that LOL.

He said he was like “uhh…you know I’m not even a producer on these things, right?”
