Terrapin is a brewery from Athens, they have an IPA called Hopsecutioner that’s quite good, if you can find it.

As an experienced alcoholic, I wouldn’t recommend trying to binge drink more than 6 of them at once, I think it’s 8 or 9% and so that could get ROUGH lol

Sweetwater 420 is a good rec also, that’s an Atlanta brewery. The 420 is a pale ale that’s good, they also have Sweetwater Blue which has a blueberry taste to it…. It’s lighter and a good fishing, outdoors beer.

As for liquor, I prefer bourbon most of the time so I’d be asking YOU for recs

@jwax13 CFB players are getting paid these days! I only watch the conference where each freshman class of ~25 players gets around $20 million to commit, to say nothing of keeping them from transferring each season. Plus if I eat Chick Fil A then why wouldn’t I enjoy other forms of exploitation? :smiley:

@NotBruceZ I actually did have a nice little setup going for a while, basing my diet off of black beans and throwing in stuff like real/decent cheddar and lunch meat ham and stuff for the fat and B12, and vegetables for vitamins. Especially bell peppers for vitamin C.

It took a long time to convince myself to do that, since it really requires disposable plates/bowls/utensils, and I get myself stuck in loops of ā€œdon’t do that, it’s bad for societyā€ which is one reason I get perplexed at people who are like ā€œI have identified these 3 simple things such as not eating CFA and I’m very certain that’s enough, and certain that people who made different choices are either stupid or bigotedā€

It’s just a lot to keep up with, with the extemely long hours of trucking, and then bam your truck breaks down and you have 30 minutes to move all your shit to a loaner truck, and you’re so exhausted you never actually set any of it up, and then your microwave breaks because it wasn’t built for all that virbration and bumping up and down. It’s a lot, man. I’m starting to realize I need to go home to a stationary home every day if I want to have a chance of taking care of my diet and exercise the way I want to, over years long periods, instead of the best months out of the year. And I’m making that happen now.

Yea trucking seems like a brutal way to make a living. Especially now with the insane (unpaid?) wait times while waiting on backed up container ships to unload.

And the economy is going to collapse if society can’t fix it with more trucks, more drivers and a big wage increase to all drivers. Or lolrobot trucks.

Carter and Reagan’s deregulation of the trucking industry has made all businesses change to ā€œjust in timeā€ shipping with lean or zero inventory. So when it collapses, it will collapse instantly. If it collpased in 1975 society would at least have a couple months of back inventory to burn through while designing a fix, plus less of a reliance on trucks and more on trains and boats anyway.

I’ve given some thought to maintaining a healthy diet on the road because I explored the idea of vanlife. But I’m also a lazy fuck who knows what it’s like to come home from 14 hours of poker and microwave a can of mac and cheese because I’m too tired to do more than that.

How long are you typically on the road?

It has varied my whole career. A short period of it, I was home full weekends every weekend, and ā€œhomeā€ for 10 hours (from the time of turning the truck key off to turning it back on the next morning) one or two weeknights too.

I had a year when I was staying out 6 to 8 weeks each time. The standard is one day of home time for each weak out.

I am currently living in the truck so there’s no home to go to.

I thought the issue was they are mostly independent contractors now?

It’s still mostly W2 employees. But those guys hauling containers in and out of the ports are definitely way higher percent misclassified as ICs. Probably big majorities in many ports.

There’s been some progress on drayage truckers being misclassified the last few years, including some successful organizing campaigns.

Of course, back in the 20-aughts, the Stockton drayage drivers, who are majority Sikh, organized, struck, and won despite being misclassified.

Independent truckers in the intermodal rail yards of Stockton, California won the majority of their demands in a two-day strike September 13 and 14, 2004 against the Patriot Trucking Company.

The majority of the drivers at Patriot Trucking Company in Stockton have joined the Industrial Workers of the World …

Although they are currently considered independent contractors and many labor laws did not protect these truckers, that didn’t stop them from standing up to win better pay and conditions.

Do people in trucking for a while end up buying their own trucks?
