Burning it down

Quite honestly after seeing my fellow Americans I have zero confidence that if we went for regime change a) it would work, and b) if it did work we would be able to build anything better. It would almost certainly be worse.

Narrator: oh ****

Remember Julius Caesar initially took dictatorial powers (allowed in roman law) for an initial 10 year term. Itā€™s always by degrees. Later when he declared dictator for life was when he got got. And his support from the people never waned. It was an inside job, the deep state, if you will.

Sulla assumed dictatorial powers against the will of the people.

NBZ is a troll.

He had a pretty strong base of support among the army, equites and senate though.

The question is really just whatā€™s support? You need enough force to take useful organs of power, you need some elite support to fill out a government and run things without immediately empowering enemies, and you probably donā€™t want the whole country getting involved on any side, but beyond that you can likely live with indifference or ignorance or quiet annoyance from the vast majority of the people just fine.

This is apparently a really good book on the practicalities of coups, but Iā€™ve never read it.

(Trumpā€™s not doing a coup.)

Dumb poll and everyone who answered it is a moran.

I canā€™t believe nobody thought to suggest a new law saying ā€œhey cops, stop being such jerksā€. Itā€™s sooooooooooooo obvious

Memes have taken over precise language thatā€™s readily understood. Wtf does burn it down mean exactly?

Definitely the same mixed emotions after spending far too much time watching protest streamers over the past few days. Plenty of moments of love and hope from these crowds but still a clear total lack of leadership/cohesion. Part of me feels a duty to drive down and support these people right now but know thatā€™s probably not the best use of my resources right now and could put myself and my family in serious danger of covid infection or worse. Seeing cops taking photos of everyone at the front lines right now and hearing stories of Ferguson leadersā€™ mysterious 'suicides" after the fact has me shookā€¦ Iā€™d never heard about that before.

Went to amazon to purchase. ā€œItem temporarily out of stockā€. Oh snap.

How much worse can it get than an occupying army declaring war on the citizens and reasserting their right to terrorize and murder nationwide? Threatening the families of elected officials and asserting themselves above the rule of law? While a global pandemic is going on and the government refuses to do anything but go on vacation and send more troops to brutalize the citizenry?

edit: This thread is much, much longer than 10 clips by now. About 150 last I checked.

Well, one way it could get worse is that your descriptions could actually become accurate.

The fact that you think theyā€™re not shows you donā€™t know what is happening right now.

If your argument is ā€œpeople should be happy to live in a country where the police can murder them at any time, terrorize their governments, and essentially replace the rule of law, because it could somehow get worse than thatā€ ā€¦ 100% miss me with that.

The only reason to make a case that ā€œthings could get worse from the protestsā€ is in favor of the status quo.

What avenues do you think havenā€™t been tried that should be tried? Weā€™re fucking 50+ years out from the civil rights movement.

Yes, this is clearly not about police tactics per se, but about a broken society thatā€™s probably at least 70% racist and whose values the cops know they are enforcing and represent.
