Pretty amazing that the Unabomber just died and heā€™s not the worst person to die in the last 3 days.

This shit is so fucked up. Sadistic professor working for the CIA probably spawned the Unabomber.

There was a TV series called Manhunt: Unabomber that I believe gets into that. I didnā€™t watch it, but I was supposed to be a scientist in a Harvard flashback scene. Then they switched me to the lone FBI agent with an actor, then they didnā€™t use me at all.

Anyway, the series gets really good reviews.

Thereā€™s a popular podcast that got deep into it. I think Radiolab.

Not according to Kaczynski:

Kaczynski stated he resented Murray and his co-workers, primarily because of the invasion of his privacy he perceived as a result of their experiments. Nevertheless, he said he was ā€œquite confident that [his] experiences with Professor Murray had no significant effect on the course of [his] life.ā€

Obviously still fucked up.

So itā€™s just a crazy coincidence that someone who becomes a murderous hermit techno-phobe was also sadistically tortured by an institution of learning in his formative years.

Iā€™m gonna bet on some significant impact.

Maybe so. If this shrink didnā€™t have some effect on Kaczynski it wasnā€™t for lack of trying. He sounds like the guy who created Jason Bourne for the CIA. Henry Murray - Wikipedia

Some of his published papers:

  • The Effect of Fear Upon Estimates of the Maliciousness of other Personalities.
  • Psychology and the University
  • In Nomine Diaboli
  • The Personality and Career of Satan

Not gonna bother cross-posting.

I mean this is a pretty easy question to answer, or at least to identify relevant considerations. The carrying capacity of the earth is much greater and people live a lot longer post industrial revolution. So if human life is bad the industrial revolution was a tragedy. If human life has positive value then the industrial revolution was good. See Elon, now weā€™re doing philosophy. :rainbow:
