What can be said about Rush that @LFS didn’t already say when he drafted Rush on his team of biggest living assholes?
There are many varieties of asshole. Some, like some of those chosen before this absolute trash human, are direct or indirect murderers. While not directly involved in killing people, my next selection is without question an extraordinarily enormous asshole. His assholery might seem similar to your garden-variety jerkoff at the golf course, but that’s like saying Shakespeare was just another guy who wrote plays. This gasbag directly shaped and influenced millions upon millions of jackasses for decades - in fact, they celebrate themselves as simple repeaters of his spew. The effect he’s had on society should not be understated. Rather than tell you about the views he’s been spreading on the airwaves like noxious flatulence since the early 1970’s, let’s let him explain himself in his own words:
“Have you ever noticed how all composite pictures of wanted criminals resemble Jesse Jackson?”
“Look, let me put it to you this way: the NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said it.”
“The NAACP should have riot rehearsal. They should get a liquor store and practice robberies.”
“They’re 12 percent of the population. Who the hell cares?”
[To an African American female caller]: “Take that bone out of your nose and call me back.”
“I think it’s time to get rid of this whole National Basketball Association. Call it the TBA, the Thug Basketball Association, and stop calling them teams. Call 'em gangs.”
“Feminism was established so as to allow unattractive women access to the mainstream of society.”
“Women should not be allowed on juries where the accused is a stud.”
“Women still live longer than men because their lives are easier.”
“I’m a huge supporter of women. What I’m not is a supporter of liberalism. Feminism is what I oppose, and feminism has led women astray. I love women. I don’t know where all this got started. I love the women’s movement, especially when walking behind it.”
“When a gay person turns his back on you, it is anything but an insult; it’s an invitation.”
On Sandra Fluke, a Georgetown law student who testified before Congress about the importance of health insurance covering birth control: “What does it say about the college co-ed Susan Fluke who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says that she must be paid to have sex — what does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute.”
“He is exaggerating the effects of the disease. He’s moving all around and shaking and it’s purely an act. … This is really shameless of Michael J. Fox. Either he didn’t take his medication or he’s acting.”
“Obama’s America, white kids getting beat up on school buses now. I mean, you put your kids on a school bus, you expect safety. But in Obama’s America, the white kids now get beat up with the black kids cheering “Yay! Right on, right on, right on, right on.”
“Holocaust 90 million Indians? Only four million left? They all have casinos, what’s to complain about?”
This is the kind of guy who advocates for punishment of drug addicts rather than treatment while being a drug addict himself. Actually, not just that kind of guy, he’s exactly that guy, because that’s what he did.
How important can a radio host be? Well, many credited him with the GOP taking back the house in 1994 after he campaigned vigorously on-air for months. There is no doubt that he’s been at the leading edge of the “movement” (think bowel) that culminated in the election of Florida Man.
Also, he’s STILL claiming that COVID-19 isn’t a big deal, and just yesterday said that the CDC and NIH are deep-state actors. People believe this shit, and repeat it.
So while on the one hand he’s a lightweight in some ways compared to some on this list, I don’t think anyone can debate that this asshole in big indeed.
