Many of the questions directed at HnH itt were insults masquerading as questions. I think having a genuine conversation with someone whose views are diametrically opposed to ours has value, but this thread failed to deliver anything of interest. Could be we were never gonna get HnH to engage in good faith, but we failed too.

Perhaps we’ll have to agree to disagree here, but I feel like the dynamic at play here was more about native posters and wirelessbro all having a good time. This is independent of wirelessbro’s decision to avoid legitimate opportunities to have a deeper discussion. I don’t mean to dismiss anything any of us did to inhibit that kind of opportunity from being explored, just to say that we’re in disagreement if you’re saying the kind of dynamic I describe above was some kind of feather that broke the conversation’s back.
Happy to admit I’m wrong here if wirelessbro says he has experienced harm and/or would have had a much different kind of conversation had we approached him differently. My perception was that besides the genuine frustration other posters have described, both sides were going at it if not in good faith then at least good fun.

I feel like I am getting some answers. I do think some of it gets lost in a bunch of noise. I’m not expecting him to have the polished takes of a knowledgeable historian able to cite documentary evidence for everything he believes. I don’t think it’s fair to treat him as some disingenuous troll who knows everything that we know (or that we think we know) and is pretending to be ignorant for his amusement at our frustration.
He could at least show some common courtesy, having been invited here by a close family member, and answer the questions asked of him.

I legitimately wanted to know why income taxes were immoral theft, while sales taxes are ok.

We let him off the hook by going low. He got to pick the low hanging fruit and ignore the questions that were going to lead to him exposing himself as a fraud (or convincing us that we’re the real amoral shitheads). We can do better.

Maybe he would be more courteous if he was treated like a guest instead of finding himself at the bottom of a dogpile.
Maybe if he had a more humane attitude to his fellow humans he wouldn’t be at the bottom of a dogpile.
The two declarative statements he has made:
- Taxation is theft.
- Lincoln is a racist.
I am sure we are missing out on a lot by not being more polite.
He is the one who came here saying he would get banned in 24 hours. Not sure why all this victim protection for him.

It’s not victim protection, it’s an opportunity to look at how this went down and improve. I appreciated the good faith questions and would have liked to see more engagement on those. I think we should have focused more on pestering him to answer those before unleashing the wolves.
