i lost interest when they started giving employees titles like chief of staff, chief of innovation, and chief of strategy.
Lol HR. If they were smart they wouldn’t be in lol HR. WOAT.
Also this is your periodic reminder that HR is never on your side unless you’re the CEO or other senior manager engaged in awful behavior. They never actually want to hear about it, ever.
After the charges became public I’m sure Epstein still quietly took money in exchange for services like the good old days. But imagine what he probably did for(or had on) rich and powerful people who were still willing to associate with him!
At the time I thought 123 was better than Excel. Obviously 30 year old 123 can’t compete with present day Excel. Also thought WordPerfect was way better than Word. I think the disappearance of 123 and WP are great examples of monopolies being harmful. MS used it’s monopoly of being the OS for business PCs to eliminate the competition for desktop applications.
123 was before Excel and the early versions probably were better. Then MS copied the best functionality and improved it (their MO). Before then there were things like Supercalc.
They did the same thing with Sybase, turning it into SQL Server and improving it enormously.
You’re right about owning the dominant OS giving MS an unfair competitive edge - a bit like owning the roads so your own vehicles have priority.
I believe this is how railroads work in the US and why passenger rail is weak here.
123 3D and my mine was blown. (Multiple worksheets within a workbook essentially).
Also I remember the WYSIWIG feature for printing.
I then had to switch to Microsoft Multiplan. The precursor to excel.
lol I used to defend this guy like a year ago. I still thought it was gross he had that much money but his PR shit worked on me and I thought he was trying to do good. His Reddit secret Santa stuff was good. I think I wrote something like " Bill Gates seems like the kind of guy who bought everything and wrote the card himself " LOLme.
From my understanding he only started the PR shit because his wife pushed him too try and do SOME good with his money.
In 2006, for example, he attended a presentation by a female Microsoft employee. Mr. Gates, who at the time was the company’s chairman, left the meeting and immediately emailed the woman to ask her out to dinner, according to two people familiar with the exchange.
“If this makes you uncomfortable, pretend it never happened,” Mr. Gates wrote in an email, according to a person who read it to The New York Times.
The woman was indeed uncomfortable, the two people said. She decided to pretend it had never happened.
A year or two later, Mr. Gates was on a trip to New York on behalf of the Gates Foundation. He was traveling with a woman who worked for the foundation. Standing with her at a cocktail party, Mr. Gates lowered his voice and said: “I want to see you. Will you have dinner with me?” according to the woman.
Sooo Bill Gates is such a fucking loser that even a billion dollars couldn’t get him laid until he started hanging out with Epstein? That’s basically what this article says.
They kind of have different rules for the founder of the company.
It was over 30 yrs ago when they met. It was a different time.
Depends on the company but usually if you have any direct power/influence over that person then hell no.
I don’t think it’s like an absolute rule that you can never date anyone at work, but 30 years ago I liked someone at work and waited until I quit to ask her out. It wasn’t like “you shouldn’t date someone at work” hadn’t been invented yet in those days.
LOL HR. Always. Like every single time.
I agree but
dating someone at work <> dating a subordinate (which for Gates at the time was everyone)
The HR at my new place is crazy. There was a dude who was only working 2 days a week, missing a SHIT ton, the manager was begging for them to do something so he could replace him and they refused for months. They just simply didn’t do shit. They let people get away with murder here.
They finally fired the guy a month ago but yeah. Seems like the one place where HR actually helps employee’s or something.
Then again they’re complete trash. When I got a promotion the manager told them it was me and he waited over a month to have them bring me the paperwork and eventually he just brought it to me himself. They offered a position for two shipping leads. Did interviews and everything. Two months went by with them saying nothing and finally gave it to someone this Friday.
He definitely would be launching rockets to Uranus otherwise.
